according to the people posting this, it's about JJ-9. The important part is that it says the company that produces the tail section for JJ-9 delivered 5 sets for the month of September. That seems to give an indication of the requirement for JJ-9. Again, it's not saying that this production rate is maintained through out the year or that this is not delivering for 2 months worth of tails in one delivery. If they can actually hold this kind of production for a year, it would translate to 60, which is pretty high for Chinese aviation industry.

JL-9 sale

Looks like a new sale is being announced every few days now. Chinese aircraft are earning a reputation for providing value for the buck this time in Indonesia for the JL-9.

RI to purchase trainer, attack aircraft from Russia, China
The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Fri, 11/13/2009 8:58 AM | National

Indonesia will purchase new trainer/light attack aircraft from Russia and China as part of an effort to revitalize its primary defense system, says newly sworn-in Air Force chief of staff Vice Marshal Imam Safaat.

He said the new jets, consisting the Yak-130 from Russia and the FTC-2000 Mountain Eagle from China, would replace the squadrons of British Hawk Mk-53 jets and American OV-10 Bronco.

The Air Force has 20 Hawk Mk-53, and eight turboprop-driven OV-10 Bronco aircraft that are around 30 years old.

“We plan to replace them in the next couple of years. We have done feasibility studies for the purchases, and will propose them to the government soon,” Imam said after the handover ceremony at Halim Perdanakusumah Air Force Base in East Jakarta. Imam replaced Marshal Subandrio.

It would be the first time Indonesia purchases warplanes from China and the second from Russia after the United States embargoed the supply of spare parts for its F-5E Tiger II and F-16 Fighting Falcon jet fighters and C-130 Hercules transport planes in 1999 due to human rights abuses mainly East Timor.

The Indonesian Military (TNI) spokesman, Rear Marshal Sagom Tamboen said the reshuffle in the Air Force leadership was conducted to improve its professionalism through the regeneration of leaders.

Sagom added the new Air Force chief was assigned to boost the country’s air defense system by increasing the quality of aircraft and equipment.

“It is our mission to reduce accidents during training and operational work conducted by Air Force personnel to zero,” he said.

Iman said the military aircraft had to be replaced soon because the Air Force had used the existing planes for more than 30 years.

Imam said further that the Indonesian Military had also planned to replace the old F-5E Tiger II jets.
“We expect to replace them by 2013,” he told The Jakarta Post.

Imam declined to mention the prices of the new aircraft, saying he had not yet discussed it with the government.

“They are expensive,” he said, adding the aircraft would be purchased using foreign aid.

Indonesia bought three Sukhoi fighter jets in February this year to strengthen aerial defense following a series of deadly accidents caused by outdated military aircraft.

The country now has seven Sukhoi-type fighters, all of which were purchased from Russia through a credit scheme. Three more are expected later this year.

Indonesia purchased the seven fighter jets from Russia through the seven-year credit scheme at a total price of US$335 million, but does not have to start making payments for five years.

TNI chief Gen. Djoko Santoso said the Air Force would focus on increasing the operational quality of its basic equipment and maintenance.

“That includes the improvement of the Air Force’s radar systems and air control power,” he said.

Sagom said the Air Force would also focus on improving personnel welfare, despite its limited budget, in addition to increasing safety standards for its primary weaponry defense system.

Sagom added that 70 percent of the Air Force’s budget was geared toward the welfare of personnel. The other 30 percent was for the maintenance of equipment and spare parts.

He said the Air Force budget was expected to increase to between Rp 5 trillion ($531.6 million) and Rp 7 trillion next year, up from Rp 4 trillion this year. (nia).

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I was just about to post this! :china:

This is a ground breaking success for Guizhou's JJ-9 and will get the ball rolling for more orders! :) Also this will certainly stimulate Guizghou to continue working on its LFC-16 project. My question though is, 'what role will the FTC-2000 play in the Indonesian Air Force?'. The article stated that the aircraft being acquired will be for training and attack, but which role will the Yak-130 and which will the FTC-2000 play? Trainer or attacker?

This is big news though and also meshes will with what we know the prgoress of the JJ-9 to be in China as well.

It depends on which one has a more open architecture and can be fitted with weapons more easily.

interestingly enough, I haven't seen this news anywhere on the Chinese websites yet. I guess it will come soon enough. I think it's pretty ground breaking for China to break into the Indonesian market in aircraft. It shows that JJ-9 is really doing well I guess. And the big question is why would they purchase both types? It really makes no sense to me.

Well from what I understand about the Yak-130 it can be armed with the 'AGM-65 Maverick or Kh-25ML and ASM-1 air-to-surface missiles, AIM-9L, Magic 2 or R-73' and the 'export version includes avionics and systems sourced from BAE Systems and Honeywell.' The aircraft has 9 hardpoints.

On the FTC-2000 side the export variant will have the FIAR Grifo S-7 fire control system so we can expect a similar style of payload from it as well. The FTC-2000/JJ-9 has only 5 hardpoints though.

The news broke in Indonesia first it seems, I gues swe'll have to wait a bit for Chinese internet reaction. From my experience though, while internationally the FTC-2000 has made ripples in the international aviation world, on the Chinese side, there seems to be little interest in the JJ-9 compared to the L-15 which seems to get fawning attention from most places.

As for purchasing both kinds, it doesn't make sense to me either, there is an armed attack variant of the Yak-130, the Yak-131 (although this article doesn't seem to be the sort who would bother with such specifics). Why not get both of those or buy the FTC-2000 and make the LFC-16 project a joint Chinese-Indonesian project and replace the OV-10's and F-5E's both at the same time by 2013 (probably earlier infact)

Dubai 09: L-15 makes desert debut
By Stephen Trimble

China's latest aerospace export candidate - the L-15 Falcon advanced jet trainer - will be on full display at the Dubai air show, a rare glimpse of the supersonic aircraft outside its home country.

The L-15, a product of Hongdu Aviation and a lookalike of the Yakovlev Yak-130, is making the rounds of major air shows seeking its first export order. Its appearance in Dubai follows the two-seat jet's debut at the MAKS air show in Moscow three months ago.

Since entering flight-testing in 2006, the L-15 has been linked to sales discussions in China, Russia and Venezuela. The Middle East could prove fertile ground for potential sales. Jordan, in particular, is looking for a new lead-in trainer as it receives upgraded F-16s. Recent F-16 fighter sales in Oman, and requirements for new fighters in Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar also could attract interest in China's L-15.

The L-15 that joins the flying display in Dubai is likely to be one of the first three prototypes powered by the ZMKB Progress DV-2 engine. Hongdu has selected Ukraine's Ivchenko-Progress AI-222-25F engine for production versions.

As Hongdu travels to the Middle East seeking export orders, the status of the L-15 inside China remains uncertain.

The L-15 is competing with the Guizhou Aircraft Industry JL-9 to win a contract to supply and advanced lead-in jet trainer for the Chinese air force.

Perhaps seeking to mitigate the risk of a contract loss, Hongdu has started publicly discussing new variants of the L-15, including one-seat, armed and naval versions.

Hongdu seems to be really pushing for the L-15 for export now. Also this talk of turning the L-15 into an armed aircraft is also a new development. I hope we get some nice pictures out of Dubai!

Dear Mr. tphuang: I am only allowed to attach 1 or 2 photos on this site.

you can attach 5 files using manage attachment. What I normally do is download the photos and then upload them to imageshack so they last a long time. You can use another image hosting server. It is annoying, but this way we can ensure the photos will stay up there.
