Well, the thing is the CJ-7 was supposed to use the same old radial engine as in the CJ-6A, and the TA-20 was supposed to use a Ukrainian 450hp turboprop engine. The first one probably does not have enough improved performance to matter, and the second one uses an unreliable engine supplier. But I am sure they will figure this out eventually.
The Russians have much the same issue with engines for the Yak-152. They are working simultaneously on an aviation piston engine developed from a car engine called APD-800, and on the VK-650 turboprop.
I am fairly sure that with all Chinese development of drones some viable engine will show up eventually.
