A desiel/electric submarine can be very defficult to detect especially when lying in ambush in a passive sonar aditude in terrain that helps mask it's "sonar sillouete".In an engagment in taiwan chinese subs would most likly be used to launch cruise missles and engage the inevitable follow on logistics ships that any expiditionary force depends on while working to deny access to the critical straits of taiwan.While ther have been many improvements to power plant technology an inescapable fact is that nuclear reactors generate electricity the end result is the same as a desiel/electric sub without the endurance.in any future conflict the chinese may not be as good but they may be good enough.

I'd say YJ-62 is probably not as advanced as club, because it's terminal speed is less. Although it probably has longer range, but that is due more to the size of the thing. The problem is that the tubes on Yuan are not large enough to launch them. China needs to first develop the submarine version of YJ-83, then it will not need to buy any more club missiles.

the YJ-62 is super sonic the club is not the YJ-62 also has longer range so I dont see why its inferior the only reason china brought the clubs its beacause of the kilos

First, I'd like to post the latest article on the latest batch moskit China received from Russia. According to this, the range is 240 KM and is also considered to be "stealth missiles". The cruise altitude is 20 m and terminal altitude is 7m.

As for YJ-62 vs Club, the Club missile that China got do have terminal phase. YJ-62 works the same as Club I think, they are both two staged AShM. I said Club is superior because it's smaller, so that's why its range is probably 100 KM less.

Where did u get that from? The YJ-62 is a 280km(+) cruise missile that is subsonic. Take one good look at the missile and its obvious its not supersonic. I doubt the reports of the new moskit being a "stealth" missile(or undetectable at long ranges"). Considering the missile has huge booster and is supersonic, this would be quite a difficult task to accomplish.

I am talking about the missile on the 052c not the cruise missile

its obviouly is supersonic. looking at a missle is the worst way to judge its speed. it replced the yj-83, which was a supersonic missle. so do you think the chinese woul replace a faster missle with a slower one?

im still really perplexed how the moskit is stealth. it doesnt have outstanding features, but i dont see many reduction features either.

Well the main site states that the YJ-62 is Mach 0.9 and what comes to the supersonic/subsonic thing, you cannot simply say that "that if some missile is supersonic, the missile repalicing it must also be one..." Remember that only Russia is generaly beeing developing supersonic anti-ship missiles, rest of the world has gone to different ways which isen't wrong way by any means...

The Club missile "looks" subsonic, but actually its flight profile is subsonic to striking range of target; and then it acelerates to supersonic speed in the final approach of the target. the flight profile is a combination of increased range and high attack speed.

again one cannot tell a missile is stealth by the way it "looks". the Chinese can easily put a coat of radar-absorbing paint to reduce RCS by 50%. or who knows, the skin of the missile could be made of graphite composite(like F-22) ... :coffee:
