People, NVDA stock is up 12% this morning. It is fine. The AI pie is so large and growing so fast that you can lose the Chinese market and still be extremely valuable.

Of course, it has also opened up the door for Huawei to be very profitable.

New huawei research center will be next to SMSC fab. That's close collaboration

Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA:

"If we are deprived of the Chinese market, we don’t have a contingency for that. There is no other China, there is only one China. There would be enormous damage to American companies” if they were unable to trade with Beijing.

“If the US tech industry loses 1/3 of its market [due to the loss of the Chinese market], no one is going to need American fabs."

Taiwanese American CEO affirms the one China policy. @DrewPavlou I found a closet Wumao for you to cancel.

new Pocket 2 foldable phone out from huawei

Use BOE/Visionox OLED as well as new domestic folding tech (i think). Comes with 2-way beidou messaging.

according to huawei whisper, this does use K9000S and is 5G (with that kind of price tag, it better be)

about SMSC sanctions, he just said it will not affect huawei product iteration and such. So I get the sense that it did provide a temporary bump for SMSC, but nothing more than that.

Still surprising that SMIC was still not fully de-risking in this case

A big change this year will be SiC world
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!
Currently domestic SiC substrate producers have capacity of 60k wpm. It will reach 120k wpm by end of this year and yearly production of 1.5 million wafers

With this, China could very well have half of world's capacity by end of this year, since there was only 1.7m wafers last year

according to Japan study, SICC has already leapfrogged Coherent to #2 in global SiC market share. Huge growht this year for ISCC is planned. They have contracts with Infineon and Bosch.

Apparently, substrate price has been dropping from international rate of $750-800 per wafer. Maybe by as much as 30% due to smaller players being very aggressive with their pricing
They interviewed with Sanan, SICC and Zhejiang Tony here. All of them have longer term contract, so they are just expecting smoother price drop as production process improves.

Here's a new article I just published about SMIC and Huawei. Title is "SMIC: Failed U.S. Sanctions Have Turned The Company Into An AI Foundry." You can read it here:

Incidently Paul Triolo is a paid subscriber to my Semiconductor Deep Dive newsletter

Just a question on lithography costs, which I see estimated elsewhere at one-third of total wafer fabrication cost .

But what is a typical split in terms of upfront capital cost repayments versus day-to-day operating costs?

eg. Is it something like 70/30 at 28nm? Or 80/20 at 5nm?
