Sadly ASML in China has to go and there is no other way around it or its influence at least severely diminished, the company presence in China has now become the biggest obstacle for the future of China Semiconductor and IT industry. More than AMAT, LAM or KLA. The monopoly of ASML has depressed the global lithography industry, rising the prices of photolithography machines and semiconductor manufacturing in general.
The Chinese government and the companies affected by these export controls need to take a rough decision, or they either stay forever in the same old nodes, with the risk of being cut off in the future or they help to build a local lithography industry to advance to their products, in the latter export controlled ASML cannot be in the equation.

Obviously, China is now developing litho in full blown mode !!

That's insufficient. He ought to read the thousands of pages of the prior thread, and then the 80 pages of this thread.

Lies! He just needs the cliff notes version.

Here how it will go, I used my special powers and predicted the future so that people can finally stop worrying:
  • US announces new harsh sanctions on Chinese IC industry
  • SDF hyperventilation (current time, we are at this stage)
  • China's response will be hidden from plain sight
  • Chinese foreign spokesman/woman says "we urge the American side to change course or they will have to face the collective will of 1.4 billion Chinese people"
  • Global Times editorial "America shows its unreliability, domestic companies will benefit, US should focus on its own issues and stop worrying about China"
  • Xi-Biden meeting, China's foreign ministry statement, "Biden said he doesnt want a cold war, and he doesn't support Taiwan's independence". "Xi said he supports a win-win cooperative relationship with US and building a community with a shared future for mankind"
  • The entire West, social media, think tankers ridicule China for its weak/no response to US actions
  • SDF continues its hyperventilation
  • 2-3 years later, a report comes out from a random Western organisation, "China is actually winning the tech war and EUV machine is ready"
  • SDF relief, "we won, finally, the end!"
  • Some months later, the US announces new extremely harsh sanctions on an unrelated industry that China still heavily depends on the US.
  • SDF hyperventilation
  • REPEAT from stage 3

I may or may not know a little bit about Entegris. They're a semiconductor chemical company that produces CVD precursors, etch gases, cleaning chemicals, as well as chemical handling equipment like filters, valves, tubes, pumps, ceramic parts, etc.

Alot of this stuff isn't necessarily hard, but niche. And the supply chain goes deep into the chemical industry. Luckily Chinese chemical industries are quite competent.

Chinese chemical industries are EXTEAMLY Competent !

China is so dominate in chemistry and chemical engineering !!

People, NVDA stock is up 12% this morning. It is fine. The AI pie is so large and growing so fast that you can lose the Chinese market and still be extremely valuable.

Of course, it has also opened up the door for Huawei to be very profitable.

New huawei research center will be next to SMSC fab. That's close collaboration

As Chinese competitors emerges, nvda market share will be shrinking, just like tesla market share.

China gaining ground in Mobile RF Front End technology despite restrictions

Despite technological restrictions, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro signifies the resurgence of the Chinese smartphone industry. Huawei and HiSilicon are now challenging their Western counterparts and TechInsights’ explores this in the upcoming webinar China gaining ground in Mobile RF Front End technology despite restrictions.

In this session, our experts will review the Mate 60 Pro Mobile radio architecture and RF FE design followed by a discussion on the key sub-3 GHz module, the MHB L-PAMiD, we’ll discuss how it stacks up against similar modules from Qorvo, Skyworks and Avago. We will close the webinar with a discussion on RF Filters, RF FE Module Packaging and RFIC Process, as applicable to the Mate 60 series of smartphones.

NVDA has far more issues than that.

Nvidia identifies Huawei as top competitor for the first time in filing. Analysts have estimated China's AI chip market to be worth $7 billion.

I mean it should be obvious. The major issue for Nvidia is that it is not allowed to compete in China due to its own govt, so all the AI tools and framework will now shift focus away from CUDA and onto being more compatible with Ascend. That was always the biggest advantage for Nvidia.

Longer term, Nvidia and rest of the industry imo are way over estimating the size of AI markets.

The key here is that Huawei should be able to produce chips fast enough for the Chinese market and that's all you can ask for

Optical Domain Technology's wafer manufacturing center project is accelerating construction and strives to be put into production in June next year

the Optical Domain Technology Wafer Manufacturing Center project is currently carrying out production process review, scheme design, business negotiations with the general contractor, site clearance and enclosure construction in an orderly manner, with a total investment of approximately 26 million yuan.

On December 12, 2023, the Chongqing New Optoelectronics Integration Industrial Park and Optical Domain Technology Wafer Manufacturing Center, covering an area of 50 acres, officially started construction. The project will introduce key production process equipment and instruments and build the country's first multi-material optoelectronic heterogeneous integrated wafer line, with an annual production capacity of up to 42,000 silicon-based hybrid material photonic integrated wafers.

It is reported that on July 26, 2022, the Municipal Economic and Information Technology Commission, the Banan District Government, and Xi'an Qixin Company signed an investment agreement for the optoelectronic integrated high-end silicon-based wafer project, marking the settlement of the wafer manufacturing center project in Chongqing Digital Intelligence Industrial Park. Chongqing's new optoelectronic integration industrial park and Optical Domain Technology Wafer Manufacturing Center will be built.
