EUV For China Research Institutions?

Ruilian New Materials: As of the end of 2023, EUV photoresist monomer products have passed customer verification and are sold in hundreds of kilograms, preparing for mass production verification.

According to news from the financial industry on April 24, an investor asked Ruilian New Materials a question on the interactive platform: Hello, Secretary General! The company's EUV photoresist has been verified by customers for three years. What is the current progress? Is the quality up to standard? Can the company now mass-produce and sell EUV photoresist?

The company responded that it is normal for semiconductor materials to take 5-6 years from R&D project to mass supply. As of the end of 2023, the company's EUV photoresist monomer product pilot batch has passed customer verification, and has sales of 100 kilograms, and is preparing for the mass production verification of related products.
Who are they selling to since there is no EUV in China?

So does it mean that there is a EUVL prototype somewhere in China?
This is more a case of the commercialization of EUV lithography in China.

the reality China has been patterning wafers using Laser Tin Plasma EUV radiation since 2017, testing EUV sources since 2002.

IOE’s Mechanical and Vacuum System for Ultra-violet Lithography Principle Experimental Device Accepted

Recently, IOE’s Mechanical and Vacuum System for Ultra-violet Lithography Principle Experimental Device, which is the Subject 7 for national Project of Key technology Research on Extreme Ultra-violet Lithography, has been accepted. Review experts considered that related research achievements has enhanced the core technology foundation of extreme ultraviolet lithography for further development, and related research work provided strong support for the implementation of the whole project.

Key technologies of extreme ultraviolet lithography has past the final acceptance

the final acceptance meeting of “the research on the key technologies of extreme ultraviolet(EUV) lithography”, which is one project of the “Manufacturing equipment and complete process of very large scale integrated circuit” project supported by National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, was held in Changchun Institute of Optics, fine Mechanics and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CIOMP). The office of administration for implementing major project organized the meeting. The panel experts fully recognized the achievements of the project and approved the final acceptance of the project. The successful implementation of the project is an important step forward in the development of Chinese EUV lithography technology.

The more advanced prototype is coming online soon, this new model will be closer to commercialization than the previous ones with the capabilities of a commercial step and scan lithography machines.

They also using Synchrotron EUV for quite some time.

And if SSMB comes online... Is game over.

If unavoidable, at present, does China have its own alternative(s) to the RISC-V and ARM (or whether China is capable of making their own alternative(s))?
You want to make a RISC-V processor?
here this all that you need.

You want to make ARM processors?
here.

In the case of ARM if you sell ARM processors without a license they will send you a pack of lawyers to your office, you will get sue to the last penny.

Of course you will have to develop your tool ecosystem but that is not an impossible task.

it means they are supplying monomers to someone else's photoresist product. Chinese supply chain have been involved in photoresist production for many years.

RISC-V restrictions? How would this work?

this just seems to be confusing. Are they saying they can't service the US components of DUVi sold in those fabs or even offer software updates and non-US components. They are keeping this unclear, probably deliberately so.

From how it sounds, asml can't service things using US components. For example, if the laser was from USA, and the laser broke, then they couldn't service the machine. But if its something else like the bench from Germany, then it's fine to service. I would also bet China already has spare part replacements for US parts. This is probably why Winkle is so confident there won't be issues.

In the smartphone RF Front-end (RFFE) industry, a Chinese ecosystem is quickly emerging after years of stalling. The leader Maxscend, founded in 2006, saw its revenue surge 36x since 2017 and now has ~7% of the Android RFFE market, mostly with Chinese OEMs, but also Samsung.
Here's a Substack article I just wrote on semi equipment sales to China in 2022-2024 and how foreign equipment companies turned the screws on Chinese semiconductor manufacturers.
