Chinese semiconductor thread II

The thing is SMIC isn't adding any wafer capacity in that 90-40nm segment. It is all 28nm and up.

It is Nexchip and Hua Hong adding most capacity in those legacy nodes. There are several other players also adding capacity (GTA Semiconductor, CanSemi, etc) but they are dwarfed by those two.

Hua Hong needs to increase its 28nm capacity and go into FinFET themselves.

Tim Cook should actually thank Trump. This would’ve happened five years earlier if it weren’t for the blanket ban.

Well yes, but with a Huawei still dependent on foreign suppliers. You could argue that would be a win for Huawei the company, but I'd argue it's very much a loss for the broader Chinese industry.

WHAT .....................

entire supply chain of Pura70 is domestic include all core components and parts.. only semiconductor equipment are imported ones. you might don't know how Huawei's return lift up entire domestic supply chain of China .. such a crucial and historic comeback..

just one example is here .. how's Huawei return saved this company. Rev is the supplier of Camera modules.

Maybe he know something that we don't know, so I'm all ears. ;)

come on bro .. Pura70 is tear down and we have confirmation. all core components/parts/CMOS , lens , memory flash , chip. everything is domestically produced.. except those tools came from western world.. even those tools also replacing one by one.
I know bro, It just a sarcastic remark. ;)

To add on your post even Apple had added 8 new Chinese suppliers in their supply chain. ;)

Apple is expected to rely on China for a reliable supply chain for the foreseeable future, and though the company has successfully established manufacturing plants outside of the country, it will take years before the technology giant can claim complete independence from the region. Now, according to its 2023 supplier list, Apple has added eight new supply chain members from China while removing four of them due to undisclosed reasons.

The names of the newly appointed supply chain partners are Baoji Titanium Industry Co., Ltd, Jiuquan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd., Jones Tech PLC, Paishing Technology Compan, San’an Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Shenzhen BSC Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Tony Electronic Co., Ltd., and Zhenghe Group. As for the companies that Apple has removed, they are Jiangsu Gian Technology Company Limited, MYS Group Company Limited, Shenzhen Deren Electronic Company Limited, and Winox Holdings Limited.

1 day ago — Despite removing four Chinese companies from its supply chain list, Apple has added eight, showing it is still dependent on the region.

there is a huge difference between buying iPhone vs Huawei phone in terms of value added and supply chain. iphone is at best 5% domestic. Huawei phone is marching toward 100%

Pura 70 so far has only identified using IMX989 on ultra version. Still waiting on that techinsights tear down to verify things

Adding net 4 suppliers to iphone supply chain is really not all that meaningful

SMIC is adding 28/40/55nm nodes. This has been stressed on recent earnings call. Some stuff like BCD, the best it can do is 55nm right now.

I think HW may beat Huahong to 14nm

doing some calculations on how much DRAM is needed for 100 million huawei phones

From here, Micron is use 16GB per die on its LPDDR5x DRAM chips
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

From here, each LPDDR4 die is between 50-60mm^2 per 8GB DRAM back in 2018

that translates to about 1000 die per wafer.
Each CXMT LPDDR5 die is 12GB.
Let's say CXMT die is 50-60mm^2 and they get 70% yield. Then each wafer is 12GB * 700 = 8.4TB. Let's say on average, each huawei phone uses 12GB DRAM. Then each wafer gets you 700 phones

100million/ 700 = 143k.

Actually, this turned out to not be as bad as I thought. Supplying all Huawei/Redmi/Transsion phones may only take 500k wafers per year.
