SMIC's capacity is full until late next year

The impact of the ban is not only reflected in the direct sales of advanced chip products, but also in the manufacturing of advanced processes. Cambrian, Moore Thread, and Biren are no longer able to produce chips at TSMC and can only turn to mainland wafer factories. It is understood that the current production capacity of SMIC Southern Factory this year and even the first half of next year is fully booked, and the relevant demand will probably not be fulfilled until the second half of next year.

"The yield rate of GPU is very low now, and there must be enough production capacity to run GPU. But when SMIC South's production capacity is released in the second half of next year, the opportunity has actually been lost to a certain extent."

Why are they selling chips that China can already make?
There is a large consumer market of people playing games probably only optimized for US graphics cards. You don't want game developers to start optimizing for Chinese cards.

I agree with the sentiment; this is carefully planned including NVDIA's good cop response. Yes - NVDIA looses access to China's AI-market but the bans prevents Chinese suppliers from taking market share from NVDIA in the consumer gaming market which is probably larger.

Nikon plans to export mature process lithography machines to Chinese market

Currently, ASML holds the top position with a market share of 62% in the global lithography machine market, followed by Canon with a share of 31%. Nikon ranks third with a share of only 7%.

The new machine will use i-Line light source technology and can be used for manufacturing power semiconductors

Overseas analysts believe that Nikon will use universal electronic components in the new product, making it 20% to 30% cheaper than Canon.

Another hint that SMEE should jump start directly from 28nm and go down to more advanced nodes. There is no sense to enter commercial market in the overcrowded and ultra consolidated market of non DUV machines.

Maybe it's odd that SMEE, an outsider and a newcomer in the front-end litho market, has to start from the already most advanced DUV machine, just a step before EUV, while in normal conditions it would enter the market from the bottom and grow up from there, as is the standard....but of course these are not normal conditions.

BTW for China a machine that can just print power transistors and IGBT is not useful at all, China really needs advanced litho, not this stuff.
