More evidence that Huawei make it's own chip rather than outsource to SMIC
not really. 14k wpm of 7nm production even at $10k ASP per wafer is just $400m/quarter. They were probably already making 7k wpm a year ago, so the change is just 7k wpm of 7nm vs 14nm, which is $5k/wafer or $105m/quarter. That's just 6% of SMIC's overall Q3 revenues.

That's overwhelmed by the lower utilization & ASP of more mature process.

I need to listen through their earnings call to get a better sense here

IDK, if that was correct would be the biggest leap in the history of the semiconductor industry. What lithography machines are they are using? At this point we could also say that they using their patented litho machine to pattern the critical device layer on their wafers. Is not as far fetch, I know that there are high power EUV light sources in China where they are testing EUV photoresists, doing mask development, multilayer mirror testing and other EUV components R&D that they could use to do this. But that would mean an even bigger leap. You know where i am going, if we are going to speculate, why not get wild doing so.

I know that in the semiconductor industry, especially in China, sadly, risk has become something to avoid, it took almost a death sentence from the US for Chinese industrialists to change their minds and still there is resistance and that is also why Canon is facing lot skepticism on their new NIL tools on part of the traditionalists in the semiconductor industry, is too just too different. But Huawei is not a conventional semiconductor company they may do things differently.

*Personally I believe that is a collaboration between Huawei, SMIC, ICRD and Shanghai equipment and material innovation center.

JV between ICRD and Huawei.
I know bro, we are collecting the clues together, What we know are the following 1) ICRD had sign a MOU with ASML, 2) as part of the agreement, ASML provide a NXT 1980i for R&D 3) ICRD sign a JV with HUAWEI 4) we heard the Chinese are importing a lot of second hand ASML machine 5) from our esteem member @siegecrossbow, Huawei had procure 2 second hand NXT 1980i 6) and thanks to @tonyget current post regarding SMIC production sales, it all adds up, of course we are speculating But the force is strong on this one.

can we please just not make stuff up.

Do you understand how much tools are needed to produce the level of chips that Huawei is needing right now?

Let's just say Huawei mysteriously gotten whole bunch of 2050i it needed to fab 7nm chips, who is SMIC producing all of its 7nm chips for, then? Why is here no one else in China showcasing SMIC fabbed 7nm chips?

I mean aside from this, I do have a source not from this forum that says SMIC is producing Huawei's chips.

I don't know how many more times I need to repeat this.

The Chinese social media is full of people saying Huawei must be using its own tools rather than ASML machines and must be fabbing K9000S itself because SMIC would not dare to make its chips and ASML would find out. Feel free to provide real evidence rather than SMIC would not dare to help Huawei.

Ziener technology from Guangdong has unveiled 1200V GaN power chips.

Can be used for industrial power source, telecom power, data center & NEVs in the future

in the past, GaN chipmakers have concentrated on < 800V segment, but looks like some of them are looking at higher voltage now. Previous belief is that SiC chips are better on the higher Voltage scales

CAS has already made the breakthrough in 1200V GaN-on-Si diode in 2022. Is this a different kind of diode from Ziener?
