There are definitely still room for Hisilicon to win market share in.

For example this new large MiniLED TV from Hisense uses Mediatek's MT9653 SoC. Huawei isn't going to win the entire market, but if production comes up more, it can win more of the market and leave less for Mediatek, qcom and others. All of this helps domestic industries

Huawei does have its own TV aka "Smart Screen" so other TV makers might be relucent to use Huawei SoC. Rockchip is another domestic (mainland) alternative to Mediatek. Tencent has switched to Rockchip from Mediatek for its latest TV box.

What's equally important is to push for domestic media standards. There's no reason to pay to use Dolby Vision when Chinese audience almost exclusively watch Chinese program on Chinese SVOD. Use domestic HDR standard instead. Tencent's Rockchip-based TV box supports domestic HDR but not Dolby Vision.

article here from a presentation on China's IC industry welcoming next 10 years of golden period

I found the part about 40-180nm segment really interesting.
Includes CIS, BCD, TDDI/DDIC, MCU & other special process. Expecting 2.9% CAGR over next 10 years. So still a very large segment

for CIS, current production is not keeping up with long term CIS demand from phone & cars
For LCD, phone & car screen use 55 to 90nm chip process. China's world's largest LCD porducer, so want to achieve full domestic supply chain here with domestic fabless and such

on how to overcome foreign IDMs. He says to focus on analog device performance & HV devices. Must promote domestic equipment & material usage

So clear goal here to fully localize domestic supply chain for 40 to 180nm segment

also says that sub 10nm segment is growing the fastest and will reach 30% of industry by 2024
10-40nm will be shrinking.

I'm not sure I agree with this, I think 28nm will remain important

To be frank it still is hopium. Two years later, and there's still almost nothing. Just some experimental papers and an experimental facility under construction.

If you really believe this magical SSMB EUV will be mass-producing 5nm chips in 2024 or 2025 - I have some Tejas stealth jet fighters to sell you.

By the way, according to this thread 28nm DUV was supposed to be here this year. Where is it?
What do you expect, the facility for SSMB is not done. When it is you will see more papers coming out.

At very least, it seems the bit on the sub 10 nm segment speaks of confidence in capacity expansion. 30% does seem very high, though.

Interesting read This lady is not as optimistic as Gina R. She see the tide receding and the tsunami of Chinese chips...

They are still acting like they were benevolent gods. “Symbolic gesture” and “see the light” of trying to send China back to the Stone Age.

Placing telecom giant Huawei and other Chinese tech companies like SMIC on the U.S. Entity List was a “symbolic gesture” that failed, Nikakhtar said. The more recent U.S. export controls announced in October 2022 have “gaps,” she added.

Nikakhtar said that when she was with the DoC, there was a “desperation” to preserve a narrative that China was going to reform and if the U.S. exported more to China, the two nations would be more integrated, and China would “see the light of day.”

If you look at the Chinese tool chain, there is a major push into getting 28nm production ready. The only thing missing is the immersion lithography machine from SMEE. But we should expect to see that over the next couple of years. In comparison there is no such push for tools for older nodes. And we see little sales even for KrF litho tools. Which makes me think they are not up to par in terms of performance vs ASML and the like.
