If this is confirmed truth then SMIC 7nm yields are way higher than some pundits think.
i really see nothing in there that would indicate this is fabbed at SMIC. I think if there is any auto chip being manufactured in SMIC 7nm process, it would be for Huawei.

btw, I also posted the performance of this chip vs other SoCs. Really not that impressive.

Just all hype

I don’t have much to add to the technical discussion - just wanted to say I had the pleasure of standing in line for 2 hours in the Shanghai HW flagship store yesterday morning, and put down my deposit for the pro+.

By the time I left, there were easily 500+ if not 1000 people in line, and I imagine it would have taken them 7-10 hours to get to the front and put down their deposit.

Atmosphere was great, everyone super friendly & happy to be there, and trading stories / anecdotes about why we were there. There were scalpers too, but probably less than 20% of the crowd.

According to one of the replies, it's ~4 hours of waiting at HW flagship store at Shanghai.

Shenzhen's faster, I'd recon. XD

But hey, Shanghai is a ghost town, so those must've been ghosts queuing up for HW... o_O

Going through SMEC half year report
Please, Log in or Register to view URLs content!

if you look at page 16 in there, it's a lot of research project they have
A lot of power chip stuff in there and auto chip
page 17, 12-14, 16 are MEMS related include

Look at that, they are the leaders in 8-inch rf filters for 4G & 5G, claiming to have full filters production, packaging, wafer making capability

also GaA based 3D photoelectric sensor product
also MEMS mirror for Lidars (this is important). MEMS Lidars require this mirror product

公司是国内最大、技术最先进的MEMS晶圆代工厂,2022年MEMS年销量超过7.04万片
SMEC produce 70.4k MEMS wafers per year in 2022 (about 6k), a lot of that likely rf filters

so it has 11k wpm of MEMS capacity

now in terms of what 5G bands need to be supported

2.6GHz
2)n78:

C-band 3.4-3.6GHz
3)n79:

和广电C-band 4.4-5.0GHz
so get this to work in China, you need to support n41, n78, n79
according to that link
memsonic supports all 3
epicmem and huntersun only supports n41
Although this article on epicmem website would indicate that it already worked with China Mobile to support both n41 & n79

Even there it said it built production capacity of 1.5B/year (this was in 2019)

looks like from this page in April, it was just producing this new Sili-BAW Pro for sub 3GHz

Also looks like huntersun (汉天下) has their own fab, which produces 960m filters a year, which doesn't seem enough in product range or capacity to cover Huawei. It is however possible they are one of the suppliers.

We've already talked plenty about memsonic, looks like they can certain help support this. But at 2k wpm * 40-50k filters/wafer -> 80-100m filters/month -> ~1 billion/year?
If sai micro can get to 10k wpm then we could be look at 5 billion/year

about epicmem, looks like they got most of SMEC's capacity and has delivered > 700m rf filters as of earlythis year
domestic share of BAW filter in 2021 < 5%, so a lot of room for growth
it has orders from oppo, vivo, xiaomi, samsung and others
looks like it's basically just concentrated on BAW filters
继2021年7月完成了累计出货1亿颗射频芯片的第一个发展目标之后,开元通信在今年第4季度完成了单季度出货1亿颗射频芯片的第二个发展里程碑
so by July of 2021, it had achieved 100m filter delivery & by 2022 Q4, it was delivered > 100m filter for the first time
EpicmemsProducts.jpg
Looks like in 2022, it offered quite the product line

If Huawei makes 40m 5G phones next year and each phone requires 50 BAW filter + 30 SAW filter, then they need 2B BAW filter at least and over 1B SAW filter

Might be using a combo of multiple BAW filters to achieve product coverage & also using higher end SAW filter for sub 3-GHz range (Maxscend's MAX-SAW offers support for up to 3GHz band)

This is by no means groundbreaking, I'm afraid. According to Apple, iPhones going back to the iPhone 7 can survive water immersion to certain depths for up to 30 minutes:

iPhone 12-14 => 6 meters
iPhone 11 Pro => 4 meters
iPhone 11, XS => 2 meters
iPhone SE (2nd generation), XR, X, 8, 7 => 1 meter
The underwater capacitive screen cannot be used. So other phones are just waterproof
Mate 60 replaces capacitive screens with gesture recognition to control mobile phones
Mate 60 therefore has the ability to work underwater
IPhone is just waterproof and soaked
