PIE semiconductor has completed new round of financing with Dongfeng taking a stake

PIE has 650V/1200V/1700V Sic Power modules and have met AEC-Q101 auto grade certification. Has started to delivery product since 2021 to EV company. In 2022, enter supply chain for foreign charging pile company & last power supply.

This year, it has received order from NEV company & started mass production.

Quite interesting, has been testing with multiple car factories and even delivered some product in 2021 but only received large orders this year for mass production. Does take time to enter supply chain even after you complete auto grade certification

imports of chip-making gear reached a staggering US$804 million in June, marking a 41.6 percent increase from the previous month


Among the imported equipment, photolithography steppers, used for printing chip designs on wafers, saw an astounding growth rate of 137.1 percent, reaching a value of US$62.4 million. Additionally, the value of etching and stripping machines brought into Japan surged by a remarkable 370.1 percent, amounting to US$44.4 million.


The spike in imports comes in response to Japan’s recent imposition of tighter controls on the export of certain advanced semiconductor tools, which took effect on June 30

China’s semiconductor equipment exports reached $4.12 billion in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%. The trade deficit registered $30.6 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 18.1%.

i really didn't know that China export $4.12 billion worth of semiconductor manufacturing equipment in 2022. @tphuang sir look

once in a life time opportunity for Chinese semiconductor equipment makers to tap into gold mine..

only 1 thing I disagree with: not once in a lifetime. this is forever because once Chinese companies get a market, they don't let go. Solar, wind, EV, shipbuilding, infrastructure...

so a lot of plans to increase first phase and 2nd phase production. IIRC, both are 8-inch wafers. Look at that, goal of 2.5m 8-inch wafer capacity by end of this year. That's a lot.

3rd phase has started production earlier with 10000th wafer rolling off. 10k wpm of 12-inch wafers in 3rd phase are in trial production right now

works out wafers for 4G/5G RF products and have demonstrated high volume production with high yield and reliability. China's leader in this area. Note, it has just entered the mainstream mobile communication. Mass production includes switches, filters, antenna tuners, multiplexors & resonator. They are researching & developing new gen of RF filter doped with piezoelectric films (which I believe is needed for latest BAW filters). Product just entering trial production. In Q3, production to increase.

Again, while many may advertise BAW filters, who is actually producing them. Looks like Silex was able to achieve that capability and looks like SMEC has the ability but just getting to the latest generation of BAW filter production tech. While it may be able to produce BAW filters in the past, might not be at the technical level required for 5G mobile devices. Again, all this is great. More firms like Newsonics will have BAW filter produciton going forward.

YMTC is a NAND producer, which is not AI specific.
This is how I often determine if an article is useful or not. If they're talking about airplanes and how car manufacturers are behind because they don't have airplanes, I know the article is going to be garbage.

Saying YTMC is falling behind because they aren't focusing on AI is exactly like that. So that article is complete trash.
