Then I guess I will stay away from there, sometimes, I almost get convinced there but I guess I should've known better
I second what @PopularScience had said, this thread is a treasure trove with a lot of excellent contributors, I can't name all of them But @PopularScience is definitely one of them together with @tokenanalyst (the maestro) , @olalavn , @FairAndUnbiased , @latenlazy, @hvpc , @foofy , @Oldschool , @tinrobert , @superdog and the venerable @WTAN. ;)

I think we should refrain from posting from social media in general, Triolo opinion tweets are professional and in some cases interesting, but I fear it could open the floodgates to low quality twitter posting and social media posting in this thread. Pages and pages of social media opinions.
I think if a Twitter post contains real fact and is from someone with legitimate connection, it's probably fine. Posting Twitter takes or opinions generally don't lead to quality discussions. That should probably be avoided.

Also, I think there are a couple of website like scmp and Bloomberg that have shown to be very iffy with their reporting. On the other hand, Reuters appear to be much more accurate. So we should remember that when posting these articles. Bad news articles aren't any better than social media takes.

After all, while we are very pro china here, we also try to understand more even if we don't like to hear bad news. Accurate news is good. Social media takes aren't better than what we already do here.

---------------------- ---------------------

This fight in IC, between China and America, will get more interesting in the next couple of years. Simply because, there is no expectation of what is realistic anymore. LOL.

No one knows what is going to happen.

What we can count on, is only one thing, and that is expansion. Due to the increased use of the chip, stemming from technological advances in other industries, demand for chips will continue to increase.

That is the demand; and the supply, that seems a little vague right now. Supply, should mean capacity, ie how much does the fab produces.

That of course has been disrupted by this chip war.

The chip war, has mainly been an attack on supply, and not demand.

------------- ------------

That is why it is very hard to say.

If you attack supply, then you got to replace supply.

That means, more supply right? More chips.

So, the question is, will demand outpace the supply of chips, or will it be the other way around?

Also, the demand is not uniform, in terms of product and location.

Once the government bifurcates the market, we just do not know what will really happen. They passed laws in the EU regarding the energy market, look at how that is working.

We will see something similar here in terms of market distortions.

BYD met with Wuxi officials recently to discuss cooperations. From the presence of BYD semiconductor Xian head, it seems like this is to discuss a new semiconductor project. They already have operational fabs in Ningbo (6 inch), Changsha (8 inch) and Jinan (8 inch). There is also the one they are taking over from Unigroup in Chengdu which will be huge. Even with the massive auto expansion that BYD is doing, this seems to be more capacity than their auto division actually need for power chips and MCUs.

All of this comes in the heel of BYD semiconductor abandoning IPO.

All of this makes me wonder two things:
1) Could one of these bases be used to design and manufacture more complex SoCs for smart car? Will BYD be diving into advanced node manufacturing? We know they are already planning to design their own SoCs.
2) Could BYD be looking to sell their power and control chips to other automakers?
