No..SMIC only has 14nm chips fab. SMIC will start production of 14nm N+1 theoretically performance same as 10nm but still far 3 or 4 years behind TSMC 10nm technology. To produce 10nm and above need EUV lithography .SMIC will stuck at 14nm forever until until they produce their own EUV or America lift sanction, but i dont think it will happen even Biden become president. America will never let china leading in semiconductor technology same as iran cant proceed building nuclear weapon. The only alternative is china need to"STAND ON YOUR OWN TWO FEET" and build their own euv because no one want will help china anyways.
N+1 is not 14 nm.

Okay......now there is a little confusion here regarding what exactly is N+1.
In this article Liang Mengsong revealed that the N+1 is a early stage 7nm and the appropriate designation is 8nm.
The N+2 is the true 7nm.
For Liang to make a declaration that the N+1 will go into Risk Mass Production in April 2021 for customers means that the 7nm Production Line is ready.

Hi gelgoog,

But any growth elsewhere will be limited. Most production will be in Asia.

Because Asia is where the consumer center of mass is, it is where the supply chain is located, it does not make sense to locate most of the industry elsewhere at all.

Your synopsis is correct, Asia particularly China will lead the way.

Hi WTAN,

Thanks for the explanation, I never understand how Trump become a billionaire, if your running a business there is a motto that we follow, "never let your customer become your competitor"

Thats why he has bankrupted his companies at least 6x

Who said he is a billionaire ? I am not too sure about that.

It depends how would you define a billionaire, just having assets > $1B even have $3B debt ?

my definition of billionaire is having >$1B net equity, it means (Assets - Debt).

Trump once said that his brand (Trump) worth $3B ... in the Asset side .... well, I don't believe it .. and now the Trump brand has big negative value in my opinion, especially after 20 Jan 2021

I don't believe that Trump has net equity of >$1B ...... without his brand value in asset side

Chinese CPU Maker Loongson Technology to List on Star Market, Its CPU Processing Capability Has Come Up to AMD

Chinese central processing unit developer Loongson Technology will list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s Nasdaq-like Star Market and recently penned a pre-listing tutoring agreement with CITIC Securities, the China Securities Regulatory Commission announced on its website on Dec. 28.

The country’s pre-listing tutoring for companies’ initial public offerings generally lasts three months, so the Beijing-based firm is expected to list in the first half if all goes well.

Loongson CPUs’ general processing capability has come up to that of US-based Advanced Micro Devices, Hu Weiwu, chief designer of Loongson CPUs, said in an announcement the firm also issued on Dec. 28. The company devised the nation’s first independently-developed high-performance general-purpose chips. Its genesis was at the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. The Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Beijing government jointly funded and formed Loongson Technology in 2010.

The firm is one of the country’s first integrated circuit design companies, and its wafers have been widely used in government agencies, energy, finance, Internet of Things and education. Some of its products integrate Big Data, artificial intelligence and Software as a Service.

“Loongson has spent 20 years learning knowledge and lessons about CPU performance and this enabled its CPUs’ general processing capability to rise to that of AMD,” Hu stated at a forum on Oct. 23, “Loongson’s operating system is becoming mature and stable in structure by trial and error, close to Windows XP,” China Economic Weekly reported.

The firm has finished six rounds of financing from Zhonghai Investment, China Reform Fund Management and other investors, information on business data search platform Tianyancha shows. The Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences holds a 21.52 percent stake in the firm, and Beijing Tiantong Core Source Technology also owns 21.52 percent of this public-private partnership.

The recent move by Hubble Technology Investment under Huawei to invest in NineCube, an electronic design automation (EDA) company in China, has been widely seen as the Chinese tech giant's bid to strengthen its chip design capabilities amid the US trade sanctions.

According to recent updates from qcc.com - a Chinese platform providing information about China-based enterprises - NineCube has undergone a business change, with Hubble Technology as a new shareholder. But the sum of investment from Hubble was not disclosed.

Founded in November 2011, NineCube is EDA service provider with Wang Xinchao - founder of China-based IC packaging firm JCET - on its board of directors.

At present, nearly 80% of the EDA market is occupied by US companies, mainly Synopsys, Cadence and Mentor Graphics.

Liang Mong Song staying on at SMIC.
Hi WTAN,

Just like you predicted, SMIC is the only option. I think management were able to move quickly to resolved it's internal problem cause it's petty and embarrassing. They complement each other. My guess is that gov't agency and institution step in and may offer MR Liang a guarantee of support either technical and other resources? (maybe to join EUVL development team).
