I wish they'd stop writing these articles to attract attention of these Anglo bureaucrats.

But I'm glad to see them design better chips. They previously designed very mid tier chips iirc.
BUT bro trolling the American had become a habit among the Chinese tech firm....lol It's a batch of honor IF you are included in the US entitled list, it means you made it hahahaha. ;)

Lishuixin wafer large-diameter silicon wafer epitaxy project is completed and will enter the trial production stage

on November 2, the construction of the large-diameter silicon wafer epitaxy project of Lishuixin wafer was announced to be completed, and it is about to enter the trial production stage.

Lishui released news that the total investment of the large-diameter silicon wafer epitaxy project of Lishui Xin Wafer is 4 billion yuan. The first phase of the construction project has an annual output of 1.2 million 8-inch wafers (mainly epitaxial wafers for special needs) and an annual output of 2.4 million 12-inch wafers. Epitaxial wafers can be expanded to 2.4 million 8-inch wafers and 3.6 million 12-inch wafers in the future. It is expected to achieve an annual output value of 5 billion yuan in 2024.

The Lishui Xin Wafer Large Diameter Wafer Epitaxy Project is a key construction project in Zhejiang Province in 2022 and a key construction project in Lishui City in 2022. On November 15, 2021, the project land will be delisted and construction will start; on May 8, 2022, the main body will be capped, and the plant will be completed one month ahead of schedule

Dual 9 stage in order pipelines should have pretty bad performance in non-optimized workloads. This is more like one of those old Intel Atom processors. It also has vector instructions and INT4 compute. Looks like a chip for embedded AI applications.

This new C908 processor seems to be the scaled down version of the 12-Stage Out-of-Order C910, released 2 years ago, on TSMC 16nm process.

I agree it seems some application specific chip tailored for Alibaba workloads. Maybe this time foundry is not TSMC, but some Chinese one. They don't say it. I guess Alibaba target is to reach hardware independence so to defend itself against (very possible) future sanctions.

At the moment US still didn't attack Chinese big cloud companies directly. IMO what saved Alibaba and friends is that banning them, it would be a huge blow to their beloved US champion Intel, that needs a lot of money to execute his advanced fabs plan.

Interesting interview from Paul Triolo,he is regular guest of ijiwei

Thanks, very interesting video. I wonder what all the knowledgeable contributors in this thread think about the answer given by Paul Triolo to the general question on whether China is doing the right thing with respect to the US chip sanctions. The question is here:
