Well, Chrome OS has shown most day-to-day usage for casual users can be satisfied by a web browser. With apps moving to the cloud, i think the underlying OS is becoming irrelevant.
Well Chrome OS's market share is between 1.8% to 5.4% depending on what stats you look at. That's despite it having lighter and cheaper devices due to being cloud-dependent. As I've said, inertia is a huge thing.

I'm not so positive on the cloud either. Cloud has some intrinsic problems in latency and data security. Hence I don't think traditional OSes will ever fully go away. You don't actually own anything on the cloud and your usage/access/pricing is subject to the whims of the providing company. Pretty much all the advantages of cloud are on the B2B side.

Like tphuang, I use Linux at work, but I never use it at home. The application support and overall experience is just not there yet. Much like Windows trying to break into the phone OS market, there needs to be more development and more application support.

Bro as @olalavn had posted they use American Technology, What TSMC can do is cross pollinate like what their former star employee Liang Mong Song had done to achieve SMIC N+2 7nm. That learning curve is now translating to SMIC owned 5nm and 3nm tech using ASML advance (China specific) DUVL and the future Chinese EUVL as they used SSRF as a research tool.

TSMC is hamstrung, they now understand that the Chinese EUVL is their savior, so is ASML, like we had discussed before, IF SMEE did provide a viable EUVL together with the materials needed to produce an Euv Chip, ASML may use the Chinese power source to side step the American component (Cymer) and work with Chinese. It's purely business once the US tech stranglehold had been breach then so is the restriction. ;)

Taiwan government is pro US, and there is no indication that TSMC is not part of pro US as well.

Yes, BUT in reality the US have given up on Taiwan thus the reason for Harvesting TSMC. IF there is war in Taiwan and American involve themselves a defeat or even a small victory will weaken them tremendously. We're living in a multipolar world and the US is one of many powers competing. The Semiconductor onshoring effort is the main goal with it TSMC tech, if achieved I bet you the US will drop Taiwan like a hot potato.

Right now the US is consolidating cause they know they're vulnerable, sacrificing its allies cause they see China preeminence within this decade.

Other than gaming and content creation, there is really not much one can't do using a browser nowadays for most people's use cases: email, browsing, simple online games, social media, etc. For office use, I expect more and more newly developed apps to be cloud-based (public and private) which are accessed through browsers.
