What will be contributed to Taiwan GDP if china have EUV in 2025
I know we can't politicize this thread, BUT I'll say that 2018 when Huawei was restrict from using TSMC is China Pearl Harbor moment, this year is the start of China offensive after surviving and withstanding their initial blow, like Stalingrad in the European theater and Midway in the Pacific it will take 3 years to claim total victory and we may celebrate our owned VIC (Victory in Chip) Day...lol

in fact, Huawei wants to do China's IDM has been rumored in 2017... that's why the US doesn't want China to buy EUV around 2018.. they only prolong Intel "stealing" TSMC's technology. .. i'm surprised TSMC's 2nm uses U.S. technology... and Intel also launched 2nm at the same time as TSMC... preparing popcorn and watch drama

Sir regarding 2nm I thought the US will have a JV with Japan, so the American will be doing a dual approach strategy, harvesting both and having Japan paid for the venture...lol

So if tsmc want to survive, joining china is their only option left.

Does not seem like anything more than double talk, then some commentary on that double talk.

That passes off as news nowadays in American media.

:D
Exports controls is not going to work. It simply means shrinking markets for American companies and goods and growing markets for Chinese companies and goods. The irony is if they had just stick with the freemarket it would have taken China alot longer to develop these key technologies.

Bro as @olalavn had posted they use American Technology, What TSMC can do is cross pollinate like what their former star employee Liang Mong Song had done to achieve SMIC N+2 7nm. That learning curve is now translating to SMIC owned 5nm and 3nm tech using ASML advance (China specific) DUVL and the future Chinese EUVL as they used SSRF as a research tool.

TSMC is hamstrung, they now understand that the Chinese EUVL is their savior, so is ASML, like we had discussed before, IF SMEE did provide a viable EUVL together with the materials needed to produce an Euv Chip, ASML may use the Chinese power source to side step the American component (Cymer) and work with Chinese. It's purely business once the US tech stranglehold had been breach then so is the restriction. ;)

I'm not a software guy but I never understood why not just use a Linux OS? There are Chinese-developed distros out there already:

They have UOS and Kylin.

I use Ubuntu/fedora at work, but never at home. If they want to get non-tech people to use linux, they need to add more software companies behind the effort. There seems to be efforts behind all of these.

If you go to Phytium website, they have monthly report like this that talks about which domestic companies are developed new softwares for them this month. In this case, it's mostly for their server product. I would imagine the list of companies developing to UOS/Kylin would be much larger.

You need a lot of support to make sure the major domestic CPUs are able to utilize all the functionalities of OS. Having a major market of 50 million computers is a huge boost to the domestic industry.
