The SSMB scheme will probably works in China and no where else. But it is all that counts.

Developing of SSMB technology will probably work in China and nowhere else....but once it will be industrialized and a commercial product is made out of it, I'd think this will be interesting and useful for everybody in the long term. Apparently SSMB allows easier scaling to shorter light wavelength beyond 13,5nm than current LPP solutions, so it seems a future-proof technology.

This won't get any attention in the west.

Also there's a Chinese company called 'Great Microwave'.
It won't get media attention but in industry and the blob circles it will circulate widely.
I'm 100% sure tech executives are scratching their balls and banging tables asking how they can restrain the hawks before further damage to their firms and Chinese market

Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC), the largest Chinese manufacturer of 3D NAND flash memory chips, announced that it has already begun sending out samples of the new 192-layer 3D NAND flash memory chips to customers. A full-scale release of the chips could occur by the end of the year, according to DigiTimes.

This seems to contradict this later post by the same source (DigiTimes), which claims YMTC is skipping 192-layer:

In IC chip manufacturing Does the doping of the semiconductor wafers take place before EUV exposure of the photoresist coated wafers or after such exposure?

@latenlazy again Sir a stupid question and hope for your patience and wisdom, as we see the pro's and con's of both, why not combined the two? from my understanding ASML High NA EUVL is more on optics and its internal arrangement with the same power source? IF China SSMB do succeed, can we see node at 1nm or lower? Or we need new tech as EUVL has reach its limit?
I asked @latenlazy a few days ago about this area too. It would be interesting to see if ASML find ways to sell the current generation EUV machines to China if SMEE can ramp up DUV production level high enough that ASML starts to loose the Chinese market. If we believe that SMEE's DUV will over the next 3 or 4 years ramp up production and also improve enough to be able to be used in lower nodes, then ASML is really going to see major declines in its China revenue.

Also, this Eric Schmidt speech gives a pretty good idea on why American policy makers overwhelmingly think they are doing the smart/right thing by stopping ASML from selling EUVs to China
The people making the policies want to ensure America has a 2 generation advantage over Chinese chip makers. The imperative for that is to allow America to stay ahead in AI, super computers, quantum computer research and such. It does not seem to bother them that China is quickly developing an entire supply chain for 28 nm chips because they are only focused on access for chips to be used in super computers, iphones and personal computers. Western policy makers are not focused on the older generation chips since they are already de-industrialized. I think that's why you are seeing China now taking a larger share in the older generation chip market, which are used in cars and IoT. As long as US policy makers measure success of a policy by whether or not China is succeeding in producing chips in the 14nm or below segment, they will probably overlook China developing a more well rounded industry.

The folly of Trump era decisions probably won't be apparent to US policy makers for another 3 to 5 years.

The policy is a failure even for the narrow objectives they've defined. Advances in AI, etc. are much more driven by architectures (both hardware and software) and algorithms, not feature sizes. China is able to both produce 14nm/7nm indigenously (with ASML equipment for now and SMEE equipment shortly) and import more advanced chips. Servers are built with readily available commodity chips, and even banned companies can easily set up shells and source them.

Medium term (3 to 5 years) China will have completely indigenized a cutting edge semiconductor design and manufacturing chain centered around domestic EUV lithography.

SSMB is the light source, there are still others challenges to have a system ready, like computational lithography for EUV, masks design issues and masks manufacturing issues, pellicle issues, EUV photo resist issues, advanced stage mechatronics, overlapping, metrology and positioning. I think nothing unsurmountable but still a road ahead.

According to the news of Micronet, the Shanghai Institutes for Advanced Study of the Chinese Academy of Sciences recently released a post-doctoral researcher recruitment notice. After entering the station, the candidates will participate in the synchrotron radiation characterization and application research of Sub-7nm advanced integrated circuit devices.

According to public information, "Synchronous Radiation Characterization Technology and Application for Sub-7nm Advanced Process Node Integrated Circuit Core Devices" is a 2021 project of the national key research and development plan "Frontier Research of Large Scientific Devices", led by Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, and the project is implemented. With a cycle of 5 years, this job posting may show that the R&D project has been substantially started.

According to information from Nankai University, Luo Feng, a chair professor of the school, has also undertaken corresponding topics and carried out photoresist synthesis and etching evaluation of extreme ultraviolet lithography technology. The company's partners include SMIC's Northern Integrated Circuit Innovation Center and Beijing Superstring Memory Research Institute.

Shengmei Shanghai: The company has obtained two orders from a major customer in the United States, which will be delivered at the end of Q2 and the beginning of Q3 respectively.

Jiwei.com reported recently, Shengmei Shanghai said in an institutional survey that the company expanded four major customers outside mainland China last year. Among them, two orders have been obtained from a major customer in the United States, which will be delivered at the end of Q2 and at the beginning of Q3 respectively, which will generate a group effect among the world's first-class manufacturers and accelerate the entry of cleaning equipment into the global market.

Currently, Shengmei Shanghai will consolidate the US market, obtain bulk orders, and expand from SAPS to other equipment. The company's long-term goal is that more than 50% of its sales are outside the mainland, and to strengthen sales in the United States, South Korea, Europe, Taiwan and Singapore. At the same time, the company has established a cooperative R&D institution in South Korea with Shanghai, and will continue to set up a local R&D center similar to the client in the future to speed up the research and development and push the equipment to the world.

For the cleaning equipment market, Shengmei Shanghai said that on the one hand, relevant manufacturers are affected by the supply of parts and components, and on the other hand, the main market is not in mainland China, and first of all, it guarantees the supply of large manufacturers such as Samsung, TSMC, and Intel. During this wave of factory expansion, relatively small chip manufacturers will be affected, and the company is actively following up. From the perspective of the layout of technology breadth, production volume and R&D team, the company's cleaning process covers 90% of the cleaning process steps. It has a leading position in China and will seize the opportunity to expand its domestic market share.

At the same time, based on the high working efficiency of furnace tube ALD equipment, Shengmei Shanghai has a large future market space for furnace tube ALD equipment with the same performance. Only by developing differentiated technologies can it compete with international equipment manufacturers, enter and After being verified in the domestic market, it is expected to grab the international market share.
