An electrical multiple unit (EMU) train departs from a station at the Dajue Mountain Scenic Area in east China's Jiangxi Province, July 11, 2024. A batch of 30 electrical multiple unit (EMU) trains, part of what is called the "mountain area elevated monorail sightseeing trains and track system," were delivered to the Dajue Mountain Scenic Area in Zixi County, east China's Jiangxi Province on Thursday.

With more than a third of the 11.8-km touring route running along a cliff, the trains "hang" visitors in the air at an elevation between 850 and 1,150 meters. It is by far the longest-known cliff train route in China. (All photos by Xinhua/Guo Jiewen)

BEIJING -- China has seen 211 million railway passenger trips since the start of the summer travel rush, between July 1 and 15, data from the China State Railway Group Co Ltd showed Tuesday.

The figure marks an increase of 6.5 percent from the same period last year, the company said, adding that the average daily number of railway passenger trips reached 14.03 million in the first 15 days of July.

The demand for student travel during the summer vacation, tourism and family visits is strong, keeping railway passenger flow at a high level, according to the company.

It has formulated a summer passenger transportation plan, increased transportation capacity, implemented measures to facilitate and benefit the passengers, and made efforts to provide reliable guarantees for safe and orderly passenger travel and stable economic operation.

The summer travel rush is usually a busy season for the country's railway system as college students return home for the summer vacation, while family visits and tourist trips also increase during the season. This year's summer travel rush lasts from July 1 to August 31.

Is there any reason why China subway system doesn't have any express train (maybe there is, but I don't aware) that won't only stop in major stops like those in Japan and I believe New York?

Maybe because China can still build new stations and lines currently and doesn't need it? For example, in Shenzhen, the Line 1 was so brutal fron Lo Wu station to the old airport!

In most cases, it's due to traffic (a certain number of signal block space between trains) and physical limitations (only having two tracks for each direction). Beijing Subway line 4 and Shanghai Metro line 11 gets around this with passing sidings at certain stations. The closest thing you might be looking for is peak service periods where trains will skip certain stations during morning and evening rush hours.
