Was gonna say I remember this thing winning a design award back in 2022 lmaoThis is not new. SLC-2E.

Good God there must be a way to automate this…
I am under the impression that the J-16 uses a GaAs radar with GaN MMIC amps, while the J-20 uses a fully GaN AESA.
But now I've seen this picture being thrown around, so am I under the wrong impression?

Thank you very much for clarifying! This picture is pretty ancient (early/mid 2010s) so it probably isn't up to date given the aircraft in question probably would've had at least one avionics refresh in that time. We know J-16 definitely has had one change of its radar between production batches, I wouldn't be surprised if J-20s have as well (and J-20A definitely will on top of it).
I am sure that this is prototyping work before a design is settled, therefor most things are made by hand. Automation only happens in serial production. It is like if you don't know how exactly your car would look like you wouldn't make a stamping press machine but use hammer instead.Good God there must be a way to automate this…
