w im very late to the conversation. But isnt DBF a basic requirement of AESA radars? For example APG-83 SABR?

No.

To do DBF.. you need Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). Ideally in every single TRM's thus making it "Element Level" DBF.

However particularly in X-band or higher frequency. The cost of implementing ADC is rather prohibitive. Thus subarray scheme was born, which ADC is only implemented in a Cluster of TRM's which formed subarrays, and these subarrays are formed which then form the full antenna aperture. This is the most popular scheme and also do well in improving the antenna frequency bandwidth (as the bigger AESA or phased array antenna) goes, the narrower the bandwidth, with current beamsteering technology.

You can still have AESA radar without ADC means the signal will be fully analog from front to back but usually ADC is implemented in the receive stage to digitize the signal coming from the traditional analog beamformer.

Just read somewhere that the J-16's AESA is said to be designated Type-1493D. Can anyone confirm and even more knows the designations of the J-10B's PESA, the J-10C's AESA, the AESA radar used by the J-11BG and J-11D as well as J-15B?

Is J-10B confirmed PESA? I thought that image confirmed it was AESA?

Zhejiang Chengchang Technology(铖昌科技), looks like these guys produce the GaN power chips for T/R modules that go on AESA radars for Chinese military

They have newly developed wide band phased array chips. In 2022, it's new GaN power products have been mass deployed for usage. It is installed in large ground based AESA radar equipment.


They have also developed space borne AESA radar T/R modules and they are in usage with happy customers.

The satcom AESA T/R modules are now in mass production and delivery
Their product covers L to W band (1-110GHz)
They do both GaA & GaN modules

mainly geared toward military, satcom network 5G MMW communication.

think LEO constellations
