Chinese purchase of Su-35

Sure. Always good to read the exact wording in an agreement. I also understand that any contract has to have its negotiation concluded before it can be signed.

I also sincerely hope that if this deal is to be concluded and signed in the near future, it will not suffer the same fate as previous Sino-Russian IL-76 and Indo-Russian INS Vikramaditya deals.

I really am is big fan of the Su-27 family of superplanes. More aesthetically pleasing than its US equivalent, F-15. Maybe Su-35, like Liaoning ex-Varyag, can shine its brightest in China.

The Sukhois already are shining in China, and that is in the form of the J-15, J-16. The ex-Varyag shined only because it has been modernized and rebuilt by Dalian.

I'm currently in China, and there has been a lot of talks on state TV about the SU-35's performance. It's been said on CCTV that a Chinese official at the Paris Air Show stated "if SU-35 joins the Chinese Air Force, it would be a great addition." It does look like Chinese media is also speculating about a purchase from Russia, not sure if they themselves got the news from Russia or if it's a hint from the Chinese government. Anyhow, Su-35s in PLAAF will be a great addition but I'm not a big fan of it not being able to deploy Chinese weapons.

Just thought I'd let you guys in on some news from the "inside". Been lurking here since forever.

The keyword here is... "if". Which can also mean, as and when or would be a great addition.

We will just have to wait and see what would come next, since this rumors had been going for years and up till now, there is nothing out there. As long as the Chinese government didn't officially admit to it... nothing said proved anything.

A few months back there were also rumors about the Chinese media reporting it. However, it was soon revealed that they were just leeching off the usual online news sources.

On Beijing TV, there's a military talk show and they're going to talk about the SU-35 next time, its performance and whether it will have a place in the PLAAF. It will be interesting to see what China's experts will say.

And... that will change anything?

I mean... even if the so called 'experts' agreed with the Russian that the Su-35 is a heaven sent and that it would be good if China can have it in their inventory, they do not represent the PLAAF and definitely not the China government.

I do agree that Su-35 is a great fighter but it had a great problem when inducted into Chinese inventory - it cannot fire Chinese weaponries (missiles and the such) and I have this feeling that it is also not compatible with the Chinese infrastructure.

But we would never know if the Chinese would in future get this aircraft or not since the rumors had been flying for ages and up till now, we see no solid proof of a contract being signed and the Chinese government or Russian government openly admit to having a deal at all.

Last week I found myself at a UAC party hosted by Mikhail Pogosyan (boss of UAC, formerly boss of Sukhoi) at Paris, so I asked him the obvious question. He categorically denied that there was any order for Su-35, but was a bit more evasive when asked about 'interest' or a potential order. I guess that just confirms what we know (or don't know) already.
