Hmmm... Am I missing something? Why is everyone so convinced that this purchase is a one-shot deal? Why can't they be just a trial? As in, if the planes work well, China will be buying more?
That's actually part of what I said earlier.

They very well could be, but if the reports on this deal were right there was a big fuss over localization and integration of Chinese systems during the purchase negotiations. That alone suggests to me they won't be using the Su-35 as a mainstay. It doesn't make sense to buy a platform in bulk that isn't integrated into the systems they've invested so much money in.
Do you understand reliability? what is the reliability for 200 F-35 I will tell you not fit for combat, what is the reliability for Su-35? higher.Su-27 deal is NOT comparable to Su-35 deal.
One can not compare Su-35 to Su-27SK, neither can one compare Su-35 with F-35.
It is astonishing that somebody is still taunting stealth is not critical character for today's fighter jet. The reality is, soon stealth will become just like radar, jet engine, guided missiles from the 1950/60s, a basic must-have. Not-having equals certain death. Who is buying dialer phones these days, anyway?
In 1990s, it was Su-27 vs F-15J and F-15K. Su-27 did a good job, a good buy.
Fast forward to today, it will be Su-35 vs F-35 (if China buy big numbers), Su-35 is no match to F-35. No reason to buy big numbers.
Su-35 advanced over Su-27 and J-11s, SO ARE F-35 advanced over F-15s. One can not pretend no to see others also moved forward and maybe even faster.
If you were the PLAAF would you want to rely on that kind of volatility for your force buildup? The whole Su-35 odyssey supposedly began as aiming for a co-production deal which still makes sense if China and Russia want to further enhance their defense relationship. The inability to reach such a deal can have as much to do with lack of strategic trust and resistance from special interests in either or both countries as it does with the qualities of the Su-35.
Every thing is money and nothing to do with friendship, in Russia some sectors see China as a threat, why? answer Siberia, similar to WWII, Russia seems to be friend of China as the Soviet Union was friend of Nazi Germany, the reality is China just bought Su-35 to enhance its technology and Russia sold them to get a buck, as China grows Russia will fear Siberia will fall to Chinese influence but Russia like Germany wants to have an Eastern front peaceful. The whole Su-35 odyssey supposedly began as aiming for a co-production deal which still makes sense if China and Russia want to further enhance their defense relationship. Why China bought Su-35?
License of Su-27SK costed $2.6 billion, uhmm.... 1995 prices for 200 aircraft. The Chinese begged the Russians to sell them their Su-35. They got down on their knees and begged and begged and begged. The Russians would not budge. The Chinese were so desperate that they started telling everyone in the world that the Russians would sell the Su-35, hoping that the rumors would influence the Russians. But the wise Russians would not budge.
The Chinese begged and begged and begged the Russians to sell them their Su-35. The Russians would not budge. So the Chinese spread more rumors about the sale of the Su-35. But the wise Russians would not budge.
The Chinese begged and begged and begged. The Russians felt bad and said "here, we got some rabbits. Buy some of our giant rabbits and feel better". The Chinese spread more rumors about the sale of the Su-35. The wise Russians would not budge.
The Chinese begged and begged and begged. The Russians felt bad and said "here, we will sell you 24 Su-35's. Leave us alone!" And the Chinese finally got their precious Su-35's and began to show them off to everyone in the world. They took their Su-35 to every air show in the world and hope everyone knows they finally got their Su-35!
Bazinga!

Everything was money money and money.
