Hmmmm ... to admit even if I'm maybe one of the biggest sceptics of this rumour a good friend - and always reliable source ! (one has to note not all Russians have problems with alcohol) - told me that it is all over the news in Russia.

Actually, design work for WS-10 started before Al-31s were imported but was no where in a ready state. Chinese engineers simply went with whatever engine available at that time which happens to be the Al-31F.

Arguably, China already got rid of its dependency on Russian engines. Chinese new Flanker variants are all using WS-10A, while old variants such as J-11A (Su-27) are meeting their service life with some sent to the scrap yard. J-10B which uses WS-10A is also about to go into production, while J-10A will go out of production thereby discontinuing the need of new Al-31s. The previous batch of Al-31s that China purchased may well be the last batch.

not sure about that, I have a feeling new J10B will also use AL-31 and so will JF-17 Block II will use RD-93

WS10 and WS13 seem far away at this point and time

All over the news? That is the last move of Russian? Unless Chinese say a thing. Anything than that will be tabloid.

Damn Deino you either subscribed, or hacked their website ;)

Calling "Vedomosti" a tabloid is bulshit. Vedomosti is bussines magazine with prominent reliability and authenticity of their articles, similar to Komersant an Expert.ru

Russia in the next two years may sign a contract to sell 24 SU-35 fighter jets to China's Air Force for more than $1.5 billion, the daily writes citing sources.

. This new one isn't going to be any different.
The report by the Russian newspaper Kommersant has generated a flurry of Western commentary; however, there is a striking difference between the Chinese-language and foreign-language coverage of this issue. China’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) has denied emphatically that such a deal is in the works, stating the press coverage is “not in accord with the facts” and the Su-35 “does not fit China’s national situation” (Caixun, March 12; Global Times, March 12).

The deal is NOT sealed unless both side confirms it. So far there is no words coming out of China.

But I'll play the devil's advocate here. What would China do with them? Only Russian weapons work on the planes, so what weapon that Russia have that is so much superior than what China have so that prompt them to purchase Su-35.

Logistics, how will China service this planes, can it do it by themselves or do they have to keep purchasing from Russia to service it.

And lastly, just what technology that SU-35 have, which China is severely lacking behind, that they can learn from it?

I don't think there is much China can learn from the radar or composite material or electronics, and probably NOT Engine as well, 117S may be superior than WS-10, but those two are totally different engines from ground up I doubt they will help WS-10 development. But what other areas can China possibly learn?

Or would this be a extortion from Russia? That if you purchase my SU-35 just this once, I'll forever drop my loyalty claim from your SU-27 copies like I did with your J-7s?

Could be some backscratching from China to Putin, considering that the Su-35 isn't getting any orders.

Though I wouldn't be surprised is the Su-35 was delivered without a radar, so the PLAAF could fit a domestic AESA in.
