Chinese purchase of Su-35

with the Su-35, basically China will make utterly obsolete the Japanese F-15/F-2, the South Korean F-15Ks and all the major fighters in the Area, with the exception of the F-22.

The same parity can be obtained with J-10A, J-11B, J-10B, J-15, J-16, or J-11D, and at significantly lower costs.

As it became known to Kommersant, Russia and People's Republic of China (PRC) signed the largest contract for the purchase of 24 aircraft multi-role fighters Su-35. The deal is estimated to be no less than $ 2 billion. Chinese military thus became the first foreign customers of these aircraft: prior to this, their only exploited the Russian air force.

That Moscow and Beijing drew up a deal for the supply of Su-35 fighter jets, Kommersant reported the Director General of State Corporation "Rustech" Sergey Chemezov: "Long talks on delivery of Su-35 in China are completed, we signed a contract." Sources of Kommersant in the sphere of military-technical cooperation argue that under the terms of the agreement, the Chinese AIR FORCE will receive 24 cars with a total value of about $ 2 billion (about $ 83 million per unit). "China officially became the first foreign customer of the Su-35, is unprecedented in the history of contract deliveries of military aircraft," one of the interlocutors stressed "

Shenyang needs constant stimuli to stay effective. The deal, if true, is a great thing for Russia in the short term and for China in the long term. A good use of a few billion USD. I also think a mere 24 will put tremendous doubt in the minds of Indian AF (200+ Su30)

Can you elaborate? How is purchasing a redundant aircraft conducive towards effective work?

My opinion only. I think Chengdu was bold enough to come up with creative solutions sometimes risky. On the other hand, Shenyang has shown success if someone gives them an initial push then they can improve. Just by studying and comparing with Su35 they will obtain a lot of knowledge to further the J-11s. So the minimal number of jets for Shengyang to learn from and for AF to practice with is what China should be buying.

Buying a redundant jet kind of defeats that purpose, doesn't it?

They would have great benchmark to reach and eventually overcome . Currently China has no aircraft that could compete with Su-35 in pure aerodynamic performance .

But whether aerodynamic performance is something sufficiently important to pursue and spend money on is unknown.
