PLA In West Point

Moving from #36th after day one to #4 overall after day two among 56 teams was an excellent showing of how well adapted Chinese soldiers can be. They got #36 on day one because of lack of understanding of western systems, including maps and compasses. They mounted a major come-back on day two and excelled at almost everything on day two so that they were ranked #4 overall. These soldiers have been trained in China under completely different systems and different rules. During the competition, they faced many things that they were completely unfamiliar with. Even with the things they do know, there were twists and turns that they were not familiar with. For instance, shooting challenge. They thought they were good with shooting, but they had to use M-16, which none of them had touched before the competition. Yet, they were able to change strategy on-the-go and adapt. It shows their ability to learn from their mistakes and adapt to new environments. It sort of shatters the myth that PLA will lose a future war because they lack experience. They may not have enough experience on the battlefield, but, as they demonstrated at West Point, they learned so quickly in a new environment and were able to beat their competitors who have been trained in such system/environment all their lives.

Thanks..

If she's a captain my name is Hieronymus Merkin..She looks all of 22 years old. And she appears to also be a pilot..c'mon now. Nothing wrong with putting an enlisted person on a Tv broadcast instead of a hired ringer.

And another thing..with that puffy hair-do how's she going to ever wear a cover(cap/hat) properly??? Just askin'...

China's military system is adopted from the old USSR. Military system is big and include a lot of non-military organs. They have their own professional sport teams, construction teams, entertainment departments (including their own tv channel), and even farming branches (recently abandoned). Those people do everything other than holding a gun. Although they don't "fight", they still have active ranks with shoulder rank slide. So it's no surprise to see an athlete or trumpeter to have shoulder ranks, although they only play basketball or trumpet.
