Chinese Internal Politics

This is best explanation by far or what went down. For those who do not speak Chinese, there are several points made here.

1. The vote Hu made was done in the morning, so he would have already seen the list. This happened at around noon.
2. It is likely Hu was confused and think that he needs to vote, which explained the confusion and all the help the guy sitting next to him was trying to give.
3. The young man who manhandled him was his own body guard for ten years, since he fully retired. Even though he bore some resemblance to an aide from Xi, the aide was 1.9 m tall and this guy was only 1.8 m. They all deferred to him to help Hu. Maybe he felt close enough to Hu to help him this way.
Some wanwans tried to spin the story to suit their narrative, after the full video was released and their original twisting of the tale no longer worked. Pretty creative mental gymnastics from them.

Li Zhanshu: don't look anymore, old Hu. Our guys aren't here.
Hu: huh... not even one?
Li Zhanshu: no... even I am going to the gulags.
Hu: what about Keqiang?
Li Zhanshu: ...
Hu: dayum ma mother of Christ! We agreed, after Xi did his two terms, he be passing the baton to Small Hu (Hu Chunhua). He can't do that son of the mother of Christ!
Li Zhanshu: Small Hu, he got kicked out of the Politburo man.
Hu: WTF?
Xi Jinping: time's up fellows, your gulag transport is here.
Hu: come on Xi, let's talk it out over a nice pint of Tsingtao.
Xi: can't keep the gulag transport waiting, bud.
Hu: okay fine let me have a quick word with Keqiang
Li Keqiang: whoa there hold up buddy, I am merely gonna be house arrested. Don't get me thrown into the gulags. Stay away from me!

In my family we say old people are like children and people should be respectful but firm toward them. My grandpa had a very distinguished career. For the last ten years of his life when he spoke with a guest for too long his domestic helps would interrupt the meeting and escort him to rest even when he preferred to talk longer. I really don't understand the fuss people were making out of the Hu incident.

Like I said before, Hu is clearly showing signs of dementia, and getting confused. The reactions of people around him are indicative of them knowing this fact as well, and knowing this fact for a long time. They weren't too alarmed, because everyone on that table are already familiar with Hu's condition. Hu Jintao needed rest, but as someone with dementia getting confused, wouldn't know what is best for himself, so might tried "resisting". Basically he just needed some rest, this wasn't a life threatening medical situation.

He might even be saying something that was nonsensical to Xi Jinping, but being polite as any Asian would towards his elders, Xi nodded in agreement. Li Keqiang's reaction, though is quite funny.

At the very least this incident afforded Xi an opportunity to prepare for his mooted meeting with Joe Biden at the G20.

Chen Jining has been appointed the secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China after approval by the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Xinhua News Agency said on Friday.
Chen has also been named as a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, it said.
Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, will no longer serve as Party secretary of Shanghai.
Chen, born in Jilin province in 1964, began his career in 1998. He became Beijing's mayor in early 2018.

New Mayor of Beijing is Yin Yong, born in Wuhan, currently in his early 50s. Studied at School of Automation of Tsinghua, supervised by the former head of China Computer Federation. He later did PhD in economics at Tsinghua, and also studied at Harvard. Formerly served as governor of PBOC. There's a rumor that he is the disciple of Zhu Rongji?
