The Chinese space launch startup Galactic Energy has just tested a certain hypersonic vehicle. The flight was a success.

Seen at Zhuhai Expo 2024.

DF-100 is listed to have a speed reaching Mach 4 and ranges of 3000-4000 kilometers. Posted by @WenJian0922 on Twitter.

According to @万年炎帝 on Weibo, DF-100 was developed in the same time period as the DF-21, serving as China's long range anti-ship strike missile backup to the DF-21D in case the development process of the latter failed.

However, given the successes of DF-21 and DF-26 families' development and induction, the DF-100 has been relegated to second-line duties, with production ended several years ago.

A scary weapon system (DF-100) ignored by most Western observers who obsessively focus on Chinese ballistic missiles.

That is enough range to hit the whole US bases all the way to the second island chain and beyond. And should be much cheaper than ballistic missiles of similar range.

I recall someone on the forum mentioning that limited deployment of the DF-100 was authorised, just so they could get the technology debugged, which would help in developing a better version?

Also, above this is the CJ-10 specification which is listed as 1500-2500km

Lol so DF-100 is a sc/ramjet powered, land launched, cruise missile that cruises around twice the speed of Oniks/Brahmos and has more than 6 times the range of the air launched Brahmos and more than 10 times the range of land launched brahmos at only about 3 times the volumetric size.

I guess the main surprise factor of DF-100 is its range. We knew it was touching on hypersonic speed and had a significant boost stage (not as significant as MRBM or boost glide HGV like DF-17 or DF-27).

If they've already stopped production of the DF-100 because the DF-21D worked well and the DF-26 has 'capability replaced' the DF-21D as a MaRV anti-ship ballistic missile and the DF-27 is available as an anti-ship glider then it's fair to think perhaps the DF-100 has been around for longer than 2019 when it was officially revealed to the public. DF-26 has long been in service before 2019 and the DF-100 was a hedge against DF-21D prior.

Stopping production of such a capable weapon while others barely have land/sea launched, land attack missiles better than Brahmos or SRBMs like Himars and Iskander is quite unbelievable unless the DF-100 doesn't work that well in operation/has flaws. I suppose at this point it's not too different to a MRBM in trajectory and intercept-ability. Only DF-100 is slower than MRBM.

They might also have a better hypersonic cruise missile that they’re not saying anything about.
