A military base in the Western Hemisphere, even an elementary one, would provoke the US more than China wants to right now. I still think the first Chinese military overseas base will be a duel use Navy/civilian installation in either Tanzania or Seychelles, because anywhere near Pakistan or Sri Lanka would be too provocative to India.
It would not be soon. They are laying the ground work for something that would be over a decade off.

2) They could've stopped this much earlier in the construction, but they didn't until it was built. They let the people spend all the money and energy to build it and then decide to tear it down.

This is not particular to religion but applies to a variety of areas in Chinese society. Chinese law enforcement is far from omniscient, and there are *MANY* instances of buildings being constructed illegally and then being forced to tear down when officials find out.

Remember the "stone villa" on top of an apartment high rise?

The alternative to your proposal would be to not enforce those laws once the illegal act has already been committed. I don't think any of us thinks *that* would be a good idea!

Diverging interests between China's SOEs and the general public will be interesting to follow in the next few years, and my guess is vox populi will win over Communist plutocrats. Maybe.

>>>>>>>>>> MODERATOR'S INSTRUCTIONS <<<<<<<<<<

Guys, Tphuang indicated several posts ago to leave religion out of this. He is a SD Super Moderator.

I have just deleted all the religious posts since his statement. After this, warnings and suspensions will be issued.

BACK ON TOPIC.

I don't see any mention of SOE in the link or the photo you posted.

However I did find something interesting using your link if you check under the economy tab.

Seems to me vox populi is stronger in the US than in China

Pollution from heavy industries, dominated by SOEs.

I've always made the point that one shouldn't consider pollution simply from an aesthetic or even a health issue alone, but also from an economic standpoint (particularly since environmental degradation can be considered an added cost that makes an polluted area more costly to redevelop, and health issues from pollution adds health care costs that wouldn't need to be handled if the pollution was minimal/non-existant.) Pollution can even be considered a level of inefficiency in an industrial process (since its wasted material that could otherwise have been used in making more product or reused for other types of manufacturing).

Price to pay for bringing 500 million people out poverty, no other country could claim that. As China progress they do better with the environment and as their industry keeps growing. SOE is not always a bad thing, heck there are private companies that performs worse both here and in China.

True, but that's probably due to the plutocrats helping SOEs, because they have their hands in those cookie jars. Nevertheless, Huawei (reportedly a private firm) is doing very well indeed.

In adding to what Blackstone wrote, according to the World Value Survey reported here

, the Chinese people feel they have more freedom than democratic countries like Spain, Singapore, Netherlands, Germany, Japan, South Korea, etc.

It is a subjective survey, asking people's feelings. But it matters. Chinese dynastic emperors did try to rule well. The seismograph was invented to record directions of earthquakes so that the emperor would not be fleeced by the people into paying compensation for non-existent destruction.
