Chinese film, television, music

Saw an amusing comment while perusing box office forums about Moana 2's underperformance in China. A white commenter asked in light of Disney's other underperforming movies if Chinese parents even take their kids to the movies anymore. (Newsflash, they do and the underperformance of a franchise that has no defining characteristic other than Disney's first princess of Polynesian descent doesn't say otherwise)

To be entirely accurate, Moana is not a princess.

The first film was altogether delightful. The second feels like it was hastily assembled from parts of several different episodes of a TV series, which apparently is not far from the truth. Despite a few nice moments, it's a rather disappointing sequel.

(The first film on 4K Blu-Ray is also a fantastic advertisement for the benefits of HDR and OLED.)

Maybe CN mainland can invest more in developing screenwriters and director talents, bcoz to be honest some shows have good cameras, good cinematography, but lacks good plot or too slow pacing that tends to be boring or some viewers might not hang on, especially if its paid per episodes... if they develop those talents/industry, and ofc discover more good looking actors/actresses, they maybe theyll get more share in VOD... curious how 'independent' is CN tv show or movie industry in terms of editing softwares, animation tools and etc?

Has anyone been able to catch Her Story at a theater near them? I was lucky enough to and it was a pretty good movie, solid script and wonderful performances. Definately give it a go if you can find a movie theater playing it. One of the better Chinese movies in the last 20 years.

A staff member adjusts costumes for Hyper Lo (L) in Macao, south China, Dec. 9, 2024. MFM, a music group formed in 2012 by Hyper Lo, Josie Ho, and AJ, adopted its current name in 2017. The name draws inspiration from the code for Macao International Airport "MFM," and also stands for "Music from Macao." According to Hyper Lo, the group aims to bring Macao's music to more places, much like a plane departing from an airport.

In 2014, MFM released their first original song. Over the past decade, the group has performed in the mainland and Hong Kong, and brought Macao's culture to wider audiences through their music.

Hyper Lo believes that Macao's development since its return to the motherland has created more opportunities for musicians. "The support from both the central government and the SAR's government has allowed us to step onto bigger stages." (Xinhua/Cheong Kam Ka)
