JINGDEZHEN, CHINA - MARCH 18: A giant domestic helicopter for civil use with a maximum take-off load of 13.8 tons, takes trial flight on March 18, 2010 in Jingdezhen city, east China's Jiangxi province. The giant helicopter was designed and produced by the state-own Aviation Industry Corporation of China with a maximum voyage of 900 kilometers (559 miles) and a boarding capacity of 27 passengers. It will be subject to further design changes and improvements after Thursday's test debut.

美国环球战略网2010年3月24刊发题为“中国唱独角戏”(China Goes Solo)的文章,对3月18日在江西景德镇首飞的国产AC313大型民用直升机给予关注。文章评价说,中国在发展航空工业方面非常注重实效,AC313直升机纯粹是本土化设计的,可升级改进为一种15吨级、可搭载5吨载荷的直升机。

  文章首先说,中国第一种本土设计的运输直升机配置AC313近期进行了首飞。AC313直升机与英国的AW101直升机同属一个级别,AW101是一种15吨级的直升机,可以搭载5吨重的载荷或者20名士兵,最大飞行速度300公里每小时,可持续飞行4小时。AC313直升机是一种13吨级的直升机,可以搭载4吨中的载荷或者27名士兵,这种直升机的设计可以进行改进,成为一种15吨级、可搭载5吨载荷的直升机。

  环球战略网评论说,在发展自己的航空工业方面,中国非常注重实效。通过授权许可或者拷贝现有的军用和商用的设计,授权许可是一种更宁愿的方式,可以引进外国的技术和专业工艺,以及需要用于制造世界级装备的机械设备。

  美媒接着说,独自发展这种装备是昂贵的、消耗时日的,还容易犯错误。由此,在过去的几十年来,中国通过授权许可生产了法国设计的直升机。美媒称,与法国的直升机相比,AC313展现出很多相似性,例如,EC725“美洲豹”直升机是一种11吨级的直升机,有效载荷5.5吨,最大飞行速度324公里每小时,续航时间大约5小时。环球战略网的文章在末尾还提到,尽管如此,AC313直升机纯粹是本土化设计的,使用了中国制造的零部件。


according to US, AC313 can be redesign to a 15 ton helos.
AC313 is compatible to the brit AW101 helos, AW101 can carry up to 5 ton or 20 troops while AC313 -4 ton and 27 treeop.
the helos can easily reconvert in a 15 ton helos ,can carry payload up to 5 ton.

What I don't understand is, if AgustaWestlands AW101 could carry up to 5 tons while the Chinese's AC313 could carry only 4 tons, how come AW101 can only take 20 troops while AC313 could carry 27 troops?

Actually according to wikipedia, the AW101 could have 25seated troops or 45 standing troops and not just 20 troops.

That just means that the AW101 has a smaller interior space (or more spacious seating) than the AC313. Has no relationship with lifting power.

Indeed, but that just brings up the question of what happened to all that space in the first place? It could be a number of mundane things but if they're pretty much the same then there should be an explanation?
