Yeah if you want to generate power you gotta rotate a generator which means you need a turbine.
Not quite true. Even with a pulse detonation engine you can move a piston and use that to generate power.
You can convert linear to circular motion.

The main failure of the pulse detonation engines was always that you need to evacuate the tube before initiating another detonation. And the way to get more power is by increasing the frequency of detonations. So it is a catch-22. The rotating detonation engine does not have those limitations.

One big issue with detonation engines is that detonations are anything but silent. So it is unlikely you will see detonation engine technology used in civilian airports near populated areas.

Other than 3D printing, high-pressure die-casting is another technology which maybe the future. Gigacasting has been revolutionizing the automobile industry, I wonder whether casted parts are durable enough for aerospace applications.
