High end bearings has always been the shortcoming for Chinese high tech industries up until recently. past few years were so monumental for this critical industry in terms of progress. they thoroughly conquered the whole process.

Harbin and Luoyang are two major suppliers of high end bearings.. Harbin is the main supplier of AECC Shenyang. but WS-15 bearings are not from Harbin.

CJ-1000AX had bearings from a Scandinavian country. Luoyang joined the supplier list in 2022. after this official information look like they replaced that company as the main supplier or the alternative supplier but nevertheless this is the good news.

3D printing superalloy single crystals is still experimental. But 3D printed ceramic cores used for investment casting of the single crystal blades are becoming a reality. Making these ceramic cores used to be a very slow process. Here are some Chinese ceramic 3D printer vendors that make ceramic cores for casting hollow single crystal blades.

I did some digging on 3D printed engine blades. Apparently TiAl blades are becoming the best material choice for low pressure turbine and high pressure compressor, and GE recently started mass producing TiAl LPT blades with Arcam E-beam 3D printers for use in GE9X.

Casting is still the dominant method for making TiAl LPT blades. IMR CAS and its spin-off are supplying these cast blades to RR and ACAE

that's great..

CJ-1000/CJ-2000 series have many surprises for the aviation enthusiast.. both models heavily used composite material and additive manufacturing techniques include 3D printed components..

if i m not wrong, so far only GE have widely used additive manufacturing and 3D printed components on commercial engine. for that they have acquired bunch of European firms in Italy and Sweden.. despite the fact, China started its journey very late in Aero engine but their investment in 4th industrial revolution helped China to quickly climbing up the ladder in next generation manufacturing process like automation/additive manufacturing/3D printing, which greatly benefited Engine industry too..

the other good news is, China have complete domestically produced technology and equipment..

This project undertaking by a space company ''SPACE TRANSPORTATION'' their main task is space travel.. they are developing different type of space vehicles and Engines..

on October 27, they successfully tested the prototype of a supersonic airliner named YunXing..

Interesting to see a future high speed system build with ramjet. Ramjet are probably the most easy to maintain with a very few moving parts.

Other high speed transports have projected to use way more complex engine. For example the Skylon spaceplane and Reaction Engines Lapcat A2 high speed transport are based on the sabre engine who is using lightweight heat exchangers to liquify air and ramjet hybrid.

Regrettably very complex and fragile systems like the sabre engine are usually still pipe dream and are disappearing in development :

The "Jindouyun 400" ramjet developed by Lingkong. It's quite compact (less than 3m in length) and produces a thrust of 400kg. It has completed ground tests and is about to be flight tested.

WIPO has updated 2023 list of Patent grants in different categories..

This Chart represent number of Patent Grants to different countries in 'Engines, Pumps, Turbines'' category.

China is the country with highest number of Patents filled and grant by the WIPO in this category for past 2 years. decisively surpassed Historically dominated USA and Japan in this critical sector and now gap is increasing. China's number of Patent grants is equal to USA and Japan combined numbers.

all types of Propulsion does count in ''Engine, Pumps and Turbine'' category like Gas turbine/diesel/Rocket engines/Pumps/combustion..
