Re: WS-15 undergoing ground test

9:1 T:W ration is impressive, GE F-404 also achive 9.5,while F-414 a 9.7,while F-119 is even fantastic 11 T:W ratio.
Is the F119 ratio 11? I can't find any sources on the net commenting on it's TW apart from wikipedia and it claims it to be 9:1...

Uh huh.. Well this is the first time I've heard of the F119 having TW of 11. I think I'll reserve judgement first...

Can anyone else confirm or deny challenge's claim?

Chinese AVIC Top Head admits the Poor Quality of Jet Engine

Apr.2 (China Defense Mashup Reporting by Johnathan Weng) — Mr. Lin Zuoming (林左鸣), the top head of ACIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China), has to admit that China’s “Taihang” WS-10 Turbofan Engine is still unsatisfactory in its quality.

In one of his opening letter, he says that the military aircraft engine production has been the “chronic illness” in Chinese aviation industry and he urges that the solving of “Taihang” WS-10 Turbofan engine is the key step to reinforce the Quality Control Procedure in AVIC.

Now PLA Air Force has install some WS-10 engine on its J-11B dual-engine heavy fighters for evaluation. But the result is not positive. Some resources report that the quality of WS-10 engine is terrible and PLA Air Force has begun to lose patiency of purchasing more WS-10 engine.

In early March 2009, One Chinese PLA Air Force Pilot sucessfully made a forced landing of one J-10 fighter due to the air shut-down of AL-31F engine. As one kind of single engine fighter, J-10 is very dangerous when power system in trouble.

As a result, PLA Air Force has been knowing the stability of Russian engines and just imported AL-31F engines before the finish of WS-10 development. But the fact shows that the WS-10 engine just looks advanced but has no real advantages to AL-31F.

The forced landing accident warns PLA Air Force that the aviation engines has been the killing shortages of its J-10 and J-11 fleets. No combat aircraft after all can fight without reliable engines.

according to Chinese bbs, someone apparently read a piece of news that Chian and France is co-developing a 1500 KW turboshaft engine that will be ready by 2014. If that's true, then China has something it can use for Z-15 in the future and also the 10 tonne helicopter.

Another 5 years before China can build a modern turboshaft engine. That's still quite mediocre. :(

Engines are hard to make even for the most advanced countries, which is why people generally stick with proven systems rather than constantly making new clean-sheet designs.

this is like an annual securities report by Xi'an Aero-engine PLC (600893 CN Equity) and part of the report is on WS-10A.
Xi'an Aero-engine PLC doesn't actually produce the engine (Shenyang Liming does), it produce some of the parts needed for WS-10A. It produces about 1/3 of the parts in WS-10A according to one of the interviews.
Here is the report.

You can see a second section where it talked about a company doubling the production of engine parts from 2400 /year to 4800 /year for a third generation engine (which means WS-10A). The eventual goal is to reach 5000/ year. That would fulfill the needs for PLAAF. I assume this is part of their effort to ramp up production of WS-10A to equip the J-10/11B. The report actually says the goal is to replace engines on existing fighters, I'm not sure how accurate that is.
