The WS-18 is in fact a "development", reportedly slightly improved (not sure how and where ?) licensed version of the D-30-KP-2 and will used in the H-6K, to replace (maybe) the original engines in the Il-76 and KJ-2000 and it will surely be the interim powerplant for the initial Y-20 until the WS-20 is ready.

Not sure but reportedly this image shows the Il-76LL engine testbed on 29.10.2014 after the maiden flight with the WS-18.

It is also said that the development tests of this D-30KP-2 "version"/ development was successfully concluded on 06.12.201 and that batch production will start soon.

Did the Russians sell China a license to re-produce the D-30-KP or did the Chinese just "copied" the D-30-KP ?

I just became aware that it is not the well known Il-76LL testbed but the original A-50I airframe used as the KJ-2000 prototype, with that IFR probe still attached.

It says actually the first flight was on October 29th and that all the test flighting work was done by December. During the test flight, the engine was reliable and performance numbers for tests matched the designed requirements. Didn't see the part about batch production though.

Design certification of the "HuangLong" (yellow dragon) engine.
From 2008

Sounds like Yellow Dragon is a 200 kg class engine. So, probably for missiles.

Looks like Chengfa is involved of CJ-1000AX project, producing parts for it. It talks about a series of technical exchanges in 2015, so looks like we are quite a way off still.

....

By the way maybe missed it: is the WS-18 a licensed development of the original D-30KP-2 or is it an "unlicensed" (sorry to say so) copy ??
