Here's what happened to the WS10A based J11B. It's really a trial usage. Too much issues. Forget about WS10A on J15 due to reliability.

Experts believe that the reason why China's aviation engine manufacturing plays a negative role , mainly because of the lack of significant competition between Chinese military enterprises. Even if found quality problems associated with the engine , the Central Military Industrial Committee also recommended that the PLA Air Force use of domestic aviation engines, in order to stimulate production from the economy. Chinese sources also pointed out that the PLA Air Force, it is impossible to completely switch to Russian AL-31F engines , because the relative shortage of this type of power plant .
