Re: J-20 The New Generation Fighter Thread IV

Because F-110 has larger by pass ratio just like the WS-10A around 0.8. This make the engine more fuel efficient than the F-100 which has a by pass ratio of just 0.36 and AL-31F with 0.6.

F-110 and WS-10A are better for fighter bomber or strike fighters like F-15E, F-15K, J-16 and even J-15. But for pure air to air combat F-100 and AL-31F are superior due to their better acceleration (smaller by pass ratio !!!))

This is why F-15C, and F-16 use F-100 while F-15E/E, F-15K and J-16 all use F-100 and WS-10A !!

You are right about the bypass ratios, but I've not read anything about F-110 being selected over F-100 because of its bypass ratio lending itself better to "strike aircraft," especially when all the hundreds of F-16s, export F-15K/SGs, etc all have air superiority as a primary mission alongside strike. That is to say, just because they are "strike" aircraft, does not mean they need to fly in a specifically different aerodynamic profile to "pure air to air combat" aircraft.

Btw the USAF's F-15Es are powered by F100s over F110s, whereas export F-15K and SGs are equipped with F110s, and all F-16s since the mid C blocks were powered by F110s as well.

you're making a few very big claims on dubious associations.

What is this single crystal non-tolerance blade that AVIC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials (BIAM) is making? Does non-tolerance mean non-critical?

BIAM does research in materials for making complex structures under high temperature, complex stress and corrosive environment, and their precision forming technology. It has the production line and R&D capacity for superalloy precision casting for equi-axial crystal, directional and single crystal hollow non-tolerance parts. It is the first unit in China to develop hollow directional, single crystal non-tolerance blade. It has the capacity for manufacturing advanced silicon base, aluminum base complex ceramic mold core, advanced large sized hollow non-tolerance precision castings (for instance, gas turbine blades). It has advanced inspection and testing technology for turbine blades and relevant supporting researches.

If my country can achieve America's 1990s engine technology in 30 to 40 years I will be damn happy already

I do agree that Singapore isn't going to get to anywhere near the US's level of engine technology, you are just going to have to live with it. ;)

I'm Chinese national. I'm referring to China when I say My Country. I hope for the best but couldn't expect anything. And I wouldn't change my pessimism when all modern Chinese fighters, bombers, heavy lifters, AWACS, helicopters, commercial airliners are fitted with indigenous engines.

At least the US has done that, even before 1990s.

I heard that wit is hard on the internet, so they invented smileys.

Looks like even that isn't enough for some people.

Anyway, you are going to be waiting a long time if you want OMG EVERYTHING to be powered by OMG Chinese engines, considering the Dreamliner runs on a RR Trent 1000. That's just not how the commercial jet market works these days.
