You mean AVIC need a Russian high ranking official to tell them the info of their own product? LOL..

MIg-29, I don't see you having the intention of coming here to contribute something meaningful. Your whole claim is lacking common sense. I hope moderator can do something about it. Mig-29 post is as good as slandering.

thanks i believe that part, however the CFM56 is only the high and low pressure part and the burner, basicly so whole point was i believe the core might use some technology from CFM56 but the rest might use AL-31 elements if Chepkin is right.
But let us leave it here, only time will tell.

Anyway thanks

You can't just frankenstein a turbofan...besides what would AL-31 elements even entail if the core is from the CFM56? We already know the fan on the front of the WS-10 and the back end of the WS-10 look nothing like the AL-31...

haha, I speculated some time ago that china could use ws-10 to develop high bypass civil engines, here we go, china is indeed doing that.

poor ws-10, russians claim it is copied from their al-31, americans claim it is derived from their CFM56!

We're all pretty sure it's derived from the CFM56...

Huitong is generally reliable. Under the J-10 "The first prototype was set to fly in 1996, powered by a newly developed WS-10 turbofan based on the CFM56 engine core technology"

Admittedly, primary sources for anything from China is hard to find, but the more dependable sources have all cited the CFM56 as the starting point.

EDIT: Found this link to. It references an article that may be able to serve as a primary source. Keep in mind development of the taihang started in the 80s, when China was still getting a lot of Western assistance with the modernization of their military.

EDIT2: Further search of the article "China Waiting for CFM-56II Turbofan Exportation" showed up the reference pop up several times. Anyone have the original issue of Aviation and Space Technology Week to verify?

Re: the AW&ST article: there is nothing surprising in the whole article. China needs an aircraft engine industry and is developing it in a reasonable way.
