Chinese Engine Development

They play around with everything just to make sure they stay relevant to the technological progresses in the field.

They were looking at unstable aircraft design in the 60s.

But China has not had much money to further fund these projects until recently.

1995 would be around the time F-22 was under development and maybe flying prototypes with 2D nozzles.

Actually test pilot of F-22 prefer 3D TVC. But I think due to the more complexity, weight and compromise of stealth. 2D TVC is chosen over 3D.

merging the turboshaft engine thread into the WS10A thread. I believe these two programs are both domestic, since they haven't signed any deals for foreign cooperation over them.

Rumor from a CD's senior member is that we will expect small batch of WS-13a production in this

year. This guy "F-22" is a military magine editor and a VIP in this biggest Chinese defence forum. He also

mentioned that the WS-13A is tested on the FC-1 for more than one year.Another good news is that the

advanced medium thrust tubofan engine pre-research is set up which I think it's the future 10800kgf engine

comparing to 8600kgf of WS-13A.Somebody also said the 9500Kgf WS-13B is on the way,I think the FC-1/JF-17

project will have no need to worry about the engine for current or for future MLU. The 10800kgf medium

tubofan engine could probably power the medium sized J-XX for the navy,or power the UAV/UCAV or for

the possible J-XX designed for the Pakistani Air Force.

The source,of course Chinese:http: // lt.cjdby.net/ thread-1220740-1-1.html

The problem for any new engine development in China is ramping up production. They found so many problems in the ramp up stage of WS-10A that we basically didn't see any production WS-10A for 2 years. I do have more faith in Guizhou than liming, but it's going to take a while to really mature. With Chinese aeroengine industry, you never know when they are going to be really ready.

could you plase post an official source claiming WS-10 is derivided from CFM56, because the Russian company Saturn, maker of Al-31 claims it is a copy of their engine by statements of Victor Chepkin, who is basicly General constructror director of Saturn

............

Actually, Russian defense sources, especially official ones, are notorious for unreliability and lack of professionalism who will say anything for marketing purposes. Being overtaken by China especially after J20, WS10 etc in recent years have taken the behavior mentioned above to a whole new level.
So having a Russian source claim something without evidence usually only further proves the opposite.
