2.further improving FWS-9 reliability and durability.

3.FWS-10H is just qualified.

The only reason I said that the WP-14 engine was abandoned is because tphuang insists so. What ever happened to Kunlun-2 and Kunlun-3?

What are the differences between the WS-10H and WS-10? A new engine is needed to handle sea salt?

Maya, my point in bringing up the J-20 was that if the WS-10 is in mass production and is being used on J-11B and J-11BS, then why install a Russian engine at all?? There would be no reason to stick in AL-31s.

If J-20 used ANY kind of Russian engine, Russian would have known it (know, not speculate).

My guess is the black one is WS-10A (same as J-11B), and the silver one is WS-10G.

No ... the one with the darker pedals are clearly from an AL-31F/FN ... only the lighter-silver ones are from that mysterious WS-1X.
The only thing that makes me suspicious is the different inner structure of this new engine, which is IMO different to a WS-10A.

I am not so sure about that. The J-20 nozzle appears to be larger than AL-31.

There are photos of J-11 testing plane with one AL-31 and WS-10, and it is obvious that WS-10 nozzle is much bigger.

The silver nozzle and dark nozzle on the two different J-20 are about the same size. So, if you believe the silver one is a version of WS-10, then the dark one is also WS-10. Otherwise, the nozzles will have significantly different sizes.

AL-31F also has pedals in front of nozzle pedals. None of the J-20 rear photos are clear enough to show that.

Hey maya, what about all that stuff on cd a while ago about WP-14 been abandonned? It seemed like a pretty recent thing.

I have just read maya's post with clear photos in this Chinese forum (his post is at #108)

I think his conclusion is precise and correct.

From the photos of his post, I can see that except the shiny coat, all the other details of the engine (include nozzle and afterburner) are just the same as an AL-31F.

Then there is only one type of engine on j-20 (and likely only one prototype) and chinese officials likely painted the nozzles in order to confund the observers and give an ideia that j-20 first flight was with domestic engines ???
