if you heard media 100%, you would believe that water of all rivers and lakes in China were heavily polluted .... thats what @SamuraiBlue would believe ... as he believes what he want to believe ;)

But if it was polluted water that gave the caviar its unique quality: full-bodied, earthy, succulent and beautiful umami taste, then the fishermen must be ready to protest against cleaning up of the water, as long as the pollution is not of the Fukushima or Minamata type.

welll ...... @SamuraiBlue may believe that Fukushima incident in fact would result in better caviar or oyster or blue fin tuna ... if you try hard to find those kind of articles you will find them even from unknown sources :p

You guys really don't know when to stop while not having a clue to the problem at hand at home.

Basically the Sturgeon farming at Qiandao lake is polluting the lake beyond the point of natural purification.

It was submitted to a US institution that discovered the paper did not meet their standards.

Likewise, having actually read the article via university access, I've found that it is discussing carp, which are bottom feeders that prefer muddy waters, not sturgeon. You are reminding me of a Japanese poster I encountered once who had difficulty with evidence: to show that the Chinese occupation in Tibet was particularly grisly, he pointed me to an article about Tibetans traditionally throwing serfs off mountains.

As to what Qiandao Lake actually looks like, let me propose:

I'd also suggest you consider the sad tale of Lake Biwa and its pearl-culturing industry, which was nearly-wiped out by Japanese industrial pollution.
