Multiple polls I've seen say there's a generational split between older Americans and younger then the Baby Boomers, with the younger crowd much less concerned with China as an adversary than the over 50's. As for majority of Americans fighting wars with China to support ROC, ROK, and Japan, it depends on how you ask the question; when asked if US should fight China over rocks like Diaoyu in ECS and land features in the SCS, most say no.

Yeah but Japan doesn't open up it's market for other foreign competitors when it comes to cars and trucks.
Japan has the most open market for cars and trucks since there are no tariffs for importing those items unlike the US or EU for your information.

Google for the non-tariff barriers.
Yeah it's also known as US quibbles and false allegations. Much more fair then PRC where any and all foreign automotive companies were forced into signing up with a joint venture with a PRC automotive company to share all trade secrets.

The US Big 3 was exporting 100,000 units to Japan in the 70's there has been no major changes within the rules and regulations beyond the global trend of safety and environmental protection and yet they were able to lose more than 99% of their share.

Try explaining why that happened.

China is not forcing them. If they don't agree, there is no need to sign any agreement.

Yen depreciation.

Nope, the Yen rose in value after the Nixon shock from 360 yen to less then 180 yen within 5 years.
As for the market it was over taken by European manufacturers.
Right now VW sells roughly 50,000, MB sells around 45,000, BMW sells 40,000 Audi sells around 25,000 etc. etc.

From 2011 to current, the Yen depreciated by about 45%.

Your imported car numbers still pale in comparison to China's which totaled more than a million last year.

Meaning not able to enter the PRC market.Much more closed then any market most around the world.

Yet it imports far more than Japan. If they learn a thing or two from China on how to cut a deal, they might do better.
