It is unnecessary in Beijing households, but in businesses with higher heat load, it may be advisable.

if it was necessary, the installation growth rate should be higher. China doesn't lack money for ACs.

You can even find ac in Beijing's hutong. Unnecessary to you, but not to them. It's already a common fact.

Lol are you insane, Beijing was in the high 30s and humid for weeks straight over the last months. Almost every household has ac of some sort as this point.

and there are many places over 40C without AC even in developed countries.

Not by choice. I have to agree with the others, you really need to visit Beijing if you somehow think AC is not widely adopted.

yes, and as shown by sales, growth rate is low, so it cannot account for the increase in electricity. it is also unnecessary, but doesn't mean people can't choose to install them.

Having AC installed != running AC 24/7. Hotter temperatures, like the ones this summer, means more people running more AC and thus more electricity usage.

Regarding refrigerator and AC, at least Chinese don't have to worry about power outages.

The survey of FDI Confidence Index indicates that China is still one of the best destinations for FDI potentially.

China Railway Corporation, which manages China's high speed railway system, can be a "publicly traded" company (privately owned in reality) with a market cap of one trillion dollars. But at what cost, literally?

and the low growth rate in AC installation, even lower than Europe, shows that the common consensus is that it is mostly unnecessary.

You don't speak for them. Cost is a major factor in the purchase of air conditioners.

Chinese cities may have higher latitudes than West Asian and South Asian countries, but their humidity is higher. Same for the other East Asian places like Japan and Taiwan. Bangkok's temperature is not lower than Singapore's. And suppose the temperature of Beijing happens to be lower than New Delhi, Karachi and Riyadh, the real feel temperature may not be lower due to the lower humidity in those countries. Similarly, when the temperatures of Kuala Lumpur are 31 and 36 in New Delhi, the real feel temperature could be comparable.

Everything(cities) south of Xi'an with Xi'an included is unbearable during summer in China without AC. Everyone in the cities have AC and it's in constant use during summer.

Summers in South China are feeling even hotter than in South East Asia, Chongqing is especially hot and humid during summer.
