well you have structural electricity growth which is due to the ongoing urbanisation of China. This should last for another decade at leastIs there any analysis of why the electric consumption is growing? I would assume much of the demand is due to EVs and increased use of refrigeration and AC units.

They already put tariffs on liquor, pork, and milk products (including powered milk and cheese) from the EU. There is also an investigation into putting tariffs on high displacement combustion engine cars imported from the EU. Basically the high end car imports.Probably, it's been already discussed before but why China dosen't seem react to Europe imposing tariff on China EV ? China appears to be weak and dosen't fight back and retaliate?
Why China don't do the same for the EU vehicles and on US products ?
they also work on the high grade iron ore that they will start to get from Guinea next year. The electric arc furnaces only operate on scrap steel. And they require a huge amount of electric generation.
If you look at it most electric arc furnace steel plants are located in Southern China, electricity is more plentiful and the coal mines in Inner Mongolia are far away.

Roughly half of the blast furnaces were built during this century. So they are quite recent and it makes little economic sense to close them down to replace with electric arc furnaces. Further increase in usage of electric arc furnaces also requires more steel scrap to be available than is currently.
