I remember that name. She did some interviews online when I believe her book came out. One of which I watch before.
There were others at mostly left wing socialist channels. I would say either pro China or at least neutral channels. As you said she spent time in China, studied there for her advanced degree and IIRC spoke some Chinese. She interviewed many of Chinese figures involved or had knowledge of the policy making during that era of China for her book.
Definitely Not the usual fake China expert propped up by US or something but a real academic in field of economics. Though she is probably also limited by fact of being an outsider with no Chinese background, no deep knowledge of Chinese history and culture.
