China needs to boost its investments in nuclear even more. Coal is a reliable "baseload" power source. That's why the CCP is understandably reluctant to throw caution to the wind and abandon it in a hurry. But renewable energies are not consistent in their output; it depends on how much sun and wind is on that particular day. Only nuclear can replace coal as a baseload. Investments into nuclear have gone up a lot lately but they need to increase much more.

There have also been significant advancements into fusion. Chinese firms are at the forefront, and it is no longer certain that it is "decades" away anymore. But that is a longer-term bet. Nuclear is a safe bet in the here and now.

Well i have my doubt if fusion would ever become a reality, let alone in a decade. But fission can be made much safer

Not entirely true, China is building more pumped storage hydropower capacity to act as baseload.
