Canada asked to leave?
US can pull out of the USMCA if it does not like any deal Canada makes with a "non-market economy." I don't know if this only applies to bilateral agreements between Canada and China or if it includes multilateral agreements such as CPTPP. This article provides some analysis and mentions that one way to get around this would be to do a deal that is more narrowly defined (in the case of a bilateral deal). However, CPTPP is pretty comprehensive.

If most members of the CPTPP agree to allow China in, and only one or two members, like Canada and Mexico, refuse due to USMCA twisting their arms involuntarily, then China can simply set up a new deal with the remaining members on virtually identical terms. Where there is a will, there is a way.

There is a clause in USMCA where US has an effective veto of any Canada/Mexico future deal with a "non-market economy." This was speculated to be targeted at China. Not sure how that will play out.
The US cannot veto if Canada and Mexico sign agreement with other countries. The US only reserves the right to pull out of the USMCA. If that is the case, the US will be more isolated by itself.

Instead of focusing on national leaders, China and its companies have built relationships from the ground up.
