I didn't think much of him growing up because he sound kind of boring to me whenever he talks, but now I look back and think of ALL the historical moments what he did during the height of the Cold War was AMAZING! That...is what a true diplomat suppose to be...boring, perhaps, but effective never the less and get the job done, who cares about looks.

I agree Popeye. I remember when he flew from Washington to Paris every weekend on the SR-71 to meet with the North Vietnamese in secret. He negotiate an end to the war in SE Asia among many other achievements including Détente and the opening to China.

I think you meant the Concorde ;) .. I too agree Kissinger was a great statemsman. However thaere is one foreign policy issue that bothers me.. that was the US government turning a blind eye to Augusta Pinochet's regime in later part when mass murders and executions of thousands of civilians took place.

What about James Baker III (native Houstonian)? I'm not sure if he was ever a Secretary of State of US before or not, but he did advise a lot of presidents during his career as a diplomat.

I remember reading that the meetings with the North Vietnamese were not known to the rest of the world. Nixon sent him as a pasenger (second seat) on the the SR-71, so no one would find out that negociation were being conducted. The French government was acting as the mediator.

Ok, I will get back on topic now.
