I had to know where that chimney fell. From the angle I was sure that it was going to fall on the adjacent structure. But as seen from a different angle it misses the building and lands in an open area.

Excuse the diversion, but could not, not know.

I see your points, but I would like to give the engineers the benefit of the doubt. Shenyang is one of the biggest cities in China and has been one of the biggest heavy industrial centers in east Asia. These engineers have been building and pulling down building a for a long long time. When its engineers want to do something in a way that even us the non-engineers scatch our heads, I would tend to believe that they would realize what's wrong with it long before us. Yet they still did it. Well, I would like to think that the had their reasons and they had taken all the precautions. And their reason for doing it this way must be good enough to convince their boss. Let's face it, no one wants to take the responsibility for messing up such a big job. It would make you look bad on the national level and destroy your career.

So all in all, keep in mind that if amateurs like us can spot what's wrong with it, the professionals wold have spotted them long before. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Again, these people are not some farmers doing some backyard jobs.

in fact, chinese technologies have been an interests for whole world :p

from here, if we have a look on the way it fallen, then it simply got broken on the middle ;)

there must a very intelligent mind behind its construction.....

There was a very intelligent mind behind its implosion. If it was not broken in the middle, the length of the smokestack meant it would have fallen on other legitimate structures.

P.S. The middle was intentionally breached.

What was promised as a romantic evening display under the glittering lights of 30,000 fireflies by a scenic Zhejiang lake turned into hours of staring at the blank night sky.

This prompted a mob of angry tourists to march on the tourist authority’s office and smash the doors and windows when they couldn’t get a refund.

The nearly 10,000 tourists had paid 30 yuan (HK$38) to see the fireflies show – some paid up to 180 yuan for scalped tickets – for opening night at the Xiang Lake plaza in Hangzhou city.

XINING, May 1 (Xinhua) -- The world's highest tunnel for high-speed trains in northwest China was completely linked up on Thursday, paving the way for the operation of the line linking Gansu Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

With altitudes of up to 3,607.4 meters, the 16.3-km-long tunnel passes through the Qilian Mountains with two sections and a bridge. It began construction in 2009.

The tunnel's complete joining means the most difficult part for the Lanxin high-speed railway has been solved, said Guo Yuhong, an official in charge of the tunnel project from China Railway 20th Group Co., Ltd.

Why are civilians banned from riding motorcycles in Shenzhen?

China has widespread motorcycle bans and restrictions in most of its major cities supposedly in order to reduce accidents, petty theft and pollution. Shenzhen and Guangdong have some of the strictest motorcycle bans; urban residents cannot register motorcycles in their name and police will stop and confiscate any motorcycle that enters the urban area.

Why are civilians banned from riding motorcycles in Shenzhen?

I have heard many major cities in China ban motorcycle (I wonder if they ban bicycle as well?) for some reasons. The main reason is they think that air pollution mainly come out from motorcycles (in case of one person riding one motorcycle and one person driving one car, who emit more carbon dioxide?). The Vietnamese do the opposite thing but they don't "ban". Instead they dis-encourage the use of cars by raising taxes, other expenses regarding cars, and the most important thing, you can hardly find a parking space in HCM city. Imagine if you can only hang around in your car and find no where to park it, what's the use? My uncle who lives in HCM city rides a motorcycle to his warehouse in the suburb and drive his car to his factory. Most rich men in HCM city ride motorcycle. HCM city has around 10 million people.
