The Russians have had trouble selling the IL-96 for the past decade? No wonder they're so willing to partner with China. Like I said before both Russia and China have to overcome bad reputations. What more than to already have a built-in largest market in the world that is China to start off from? The Russians aren't making money from their IL-96 and with China building this one, you know the government is going to buy them. We'll see if it follows through though.

I don't disagree with the general thrust (I don't agree either, not enough facts yet) - but if the Chinese market is the target then this is probably NOT going to be the Il-96 for a simple reason... the thing is a wide-body long-haul jet, so it won't really be suitable for the purely domestic market and if you are looking at international lines by Chinese airlines then we are back to square one.

What about the IL-96 use as a large commercial cargo plane?

Slightly better, but still not quite - the best figure I've seen for the Il-96 in cargo configuration still has her doing some 4,500-5,000 km, which is still a bit extreme for the Chinese domestic market alone, to say nothing of the viability of large scale cargo flight within China itself.

But it's a nice start. I can see flights of agricultural cargo from Urumqi (West of China) to Nanchang (East of China more inland) and vice versa. Also with flights to Singapore and Australia as far as important vital cargo.

IL-96 is a non-starter. It is not competitive. just like A340 is not competitive.
while may be some stuff from Il96M could conceivably make it into new airplane. the future of long haul is with big twins like A350 and 777 strech.

ARJ21 Airworthiness Forensics Making Constant Progress

On May 31, ARJ21-700 airworthiness forensics management meeting was held in Xi’an, during which the general designer made a report to the Review Group on issues like the project progress, TIA’s left-over work state, and preparations for coordinating FAA-CAAC site software inspection, etc.

According to the Flight Test Center, since the formal entry into TIA verification test flights, ARJ21 aircrafts have made complete success in the crosswind, natural icing, and airspeed calibration bureau verification test flights, etc.

Meanwhile, AVIC recently conferred the Airlines Service Golden Award on the main principals and outstanding contributors of the ARJ21-700 project, including Zhao Peng, vice president of the Flight Test Center and chief test pilot for the ARJ21-700 project, Zhao Jie, general designer of test flights, and Qiang Baoping, chief engineer and deputy director of the Intensity Department.(Prince)

CATIC - Guyana Y-12II Project Completed

Recently, the conclusion ceremony of Guyana Y-12 II air and ground staff modification & training as well as the spare-parts handover ceremony aided by China’s Ministry of Defense were held in Timai-He Air Force Base, Guyana.

The Chief of Staff of Guyanese Defense Force (***) claimed, thanks to Chinese government’s support and CATIC’s efforts, the *** air and ground staff’s ability of operating and maintaining Y-12 II aircrafts was substantially promoted through this project.

In 2011, CATIC signed with Chinese Defense Ministry and the Guyanese Government in succession the agreements of modifying and training Y-12 II air and ground staff and of supplying spare parts on the strength of Chinese government aids to Guyana. All departments of CATIC fully cooperated to provide rapid, comprehensive support for Guyana, thus ensuring the smooth progress of training and successful handover of spare parts. Finally, there were 23 ground staff and five pilots successfully completing both theoretical and practical training.

Eurocopter EC175 Nears Certification

The Eurocopter EC175 (also Avicopter Z-15) is a 7-ton class medium utility helicopter being developed by Eurocopter and AVIC. The Eurocopter EC175 is making progress toward certification. Transport Canada has certified Pratt & Whitney Canada’s 1,775-shp PT6C-67E turboshaft. Meanwhile, the airframer has revealed the precise mtow for the helicopter: 16,535 pounds, for a useful load of 7,271 pounds.

The radius of action, for two pilots and up to 16 passengers, is given as 135 nm (oil and gas configuration, JAR OPS 3, fuel reserves 30 minutes plus 10-percent contingency fuel, ISA conditions).

Hi Freedom,

The photo of the ARJ-21; with "COMAC" painted on the side, in blue... (plane in white, with exception of the blue tail).

Is that a real photo or a CGI?

Reason for asking being that I always have the impression that the majority of Chinese designed plane have rather boring or messy paint schemes; then again how many Chinese planes have I seen ... :p. Just wondering if the above photo is a company (COMAC) produced CGI for marketing purposes, or is this their new paint schemes.

PS. I like that paint scheme. Looks very clean and simple.

So ec175, with PWC engines is actually a 7,5 ton helicopter now, nice. It remains to be seen if z15, with chinese/turbomeca engines will retain that mtow value or will change it. for worse? or even push it to 8 ton territory?
